MODULE 1: Introduction to Technical Drafting

OUTLINE
Module Overview
Discussion on the importance of technical drafting as a means of visual communication.
Students would also learn the different drafting tools that are used and their specific
functions.

Module Learning Outcomes

● Learn the importance of technical drafting .
● Introduce drafting tools needed and their uses.
● Be prepared for drafting succeeding plates manually.

Discussion:
Visual communication relies on drawings as the primary component of language to
support the conception and visualization of ideas. Architects and Engineers develop
these drawings with the understanding that the importance of presentation drawings is
to clearly communicate their ideas to laymen as well as other professionals.
Drafting tools:
● Drafting table – slightly angled with straight edges

● T-square – for drawing horizontal lines only

● 30°-60° Triangle – for drawing vertical lines only and 30°-60° angles

● 45° Triangle – for drawing vertical lines only and 45° angles

● 2H pencil – for thin lines

● HB pencil – for thick lines
● Eraser – for erasing mistakes
● Sharpener – for sharpening pencils
● Tape – for taping paper onto drafting table
