6.1 Preparation:
. It will be ensured that the materials purchased & received are as per
Technip specification and drawings.
. Ensure the protective coating of bare conductor is proper and free of
damages.
. Continuity of conductor drum will be checked before laying.
. For transformer Natural Earthing, the resistor bank will be ready before
installing the grounding .
. Cable lying in trenches/ducts or above ground will be laid according to
the specification and Technip drawing.
. Cable trenches shall be as per the drawing.
In unpaved area:
Cable will be layed on 150 mm sand bed and after laying 150 mm sand bed will
come on the cable prior to putting concrete tile and warning tape and back filling.
. Earthing trenches shall be excavated (refer to method statement for civil works)
at the depth of min 800mm below ground level. after drum continuity testing
the main earth conductor (70/95 sq. mm) will be pulled and laid in excavated
earthing trenches or in the electrical cable trenches where applicable.
In paved area:
. After drum continuity testing the main earthing conductor (70/95 sq. mm)
will be pulled on ground level before paving.

This main grid should provide a very low resistance (below 1 ohm) path of electrical protection.
Main earthing grid will be connected to bus bars. (Dispatchers) to ensure earthing of structure /
equipment. Branch earthing cable will be laid from dispatchers to structure & connected through
an earthing pad that is welded on the structure. Equipments will be earthed following equipment
individual requirement (Motors, lighting fixtures, instruments, vessels) Connections are done bye
compression taps / cable lugs crimping. Flexible bonding straps across rack splices are ONLY
required if a non metallic coating is applied to the rack surface, where ladder is galvanized the
bonding strap is omitted. Each end of the cable rack will be connected to the main earthing grid
each. Aerial earthing cable shall be connected to main earthing grid each 30m. attached
“Electrical construction standard – earthing”
At the stub Up UPVC conduit shall be used at the riser of earthing conductor for mechanical
protection.
Main earthing of each building / substation will be laid at 1m distance from building and
structures.
We will drill hole in ground and put earth rod 4.5m long in the hole and after putting rod in, we
install precast Earth Pit and then we install Earth Dispatcher in the pit and connect with earth rod,
the space around earth rod is filled with clean sand as per standard (STC 505).
Inside building (RIE, SS) clean earthing for instrument is required and will be connected to the
main grid via earthing bus bar to protect electronic circuit. Instrument earthing will be done as per
instrument drawing, and specs.
As this side has many electrical subcontractors co-ordination will be made through Technip to
ensure the earthing network continuity & potential resistance homogeneity.
7. QUALITY CONTROL:
● It will be ensured that all Materials, Equipments and Testing Instruments are of approved
standards and calibrated where applicable.
● On Physical inspection, it will be ensured that materials are free of damage and of correct
dimensions.

● Calibrated digital earth tester shall be used for measurement of earth resistance.
8. HSE
8.1 Safety
● All workers shall wear proper personel protection equipment (PPE) in accordance with the project
general safety guidelines and DESCON Health, Safety, Environment & Security Plan i.e. : safety
helmets, safety glasses, welding face shield, safety shoes and hand gloves.
● All equipments shall be checked for good conditions before commencing the work.
● Temporary electrical facilities (generators, welding machines, electrical distribution panels, connection
cables, etc) shall comply with standards of electrical works and shall be inspected before energizing.
8.2 Environment
● On completion of job, the area shall be cleaned from any materials and kept clean and tidy.
● If any oil spoils occur the contaminated soil shall be removed to designated dump areas. Oil spills over
180 litres shall be immediately reported to the Technip HSE Manager.
