Distance

The document provides a detailed lesson plan for a 7th grade physics lesson on distance and displacement. The objective is for students to describe motion in terms of distance. The lesson plan outlines preliminary activities like prayer and a review. A motivational activity involves blindfolded movement. The main lesson defines key concepts like motion, reference point, and distance. Students work in groups on an activity analyzing a diagram and answering questions. Groups then present their answers.

A Detailed Lesson Plan

In Physics for Grade 7

“Distance and Displacement”
Prepared By: Alinor H. Serabo
Cooperating School: Iligan City National High School

I. OBJECTIVE
At the end of the lesson, the grade 7 students are expected to:
 Describe the motion of an object in terms of distance

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: Motion, Distance
B. References K to 12 Curriculum Guide pp 116-117 Code: S7FE-IIIa-1
Science Learner’s Material pp 166-175
Science Teacher’s Guide pp 170-173
C. Instructional Materials: Visual aids, Activity Sheets
D. Concept
Many of the things around us move, some move slowly, some moves quickly, because motion is
common, it seems very simple to define. But in science, describing motion actually entails careful use of
some definitions. Motion is a continuous change in position with respect to a reference point. Motion
will be described in terms of the positions of the moving object.
E. Skills: Observing, Critical Thinking, Communicating
F. Values Integration: Awareness, Cooperation, Collaboration

III. PROCEDURE
Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Preparing the Learners
Good morning class! Good morning, Sir Alinor!

Before we start, please pick up pieces of paper and plastics (The learners pick up the papers and
under your chairs. plastics)

Are you all done? Yes, sir!

2. Prayer
Please remain standing for the prayer. (The learners will remain standing)
Who wants to lead the prayer? (Student A will come forward and will lead
the prayer)
You may now all take your seats. (The learners will take their seats)

3. Attendance
(The teacher will check the attendance/ask who are (The learners will tell who are absent among
absent) their classmates.)

4. Checking of Assignment

5. Review (The learners will share what they have

Last quarter, you have learned many things about biology. learned in previous quarter)
Right? Now, can anyone share something what have you
learned of all topics in biology.

Very good class!

Yes, sir!
Class, before we start our discussion, let me remind
everybody to listen. If you have any questions, just raise
your right hand and do not answer in chorus, would that be
okay to you class?

B. Motivational Activity (Learners will share some insights about

Last quarter, you have learned about Biology. This time, you will physics)
be learning about Physics. What do you know about Physics?

Class, Physics is a branch of Science that studies matter and

energy it comes from a Greek word ‘knowledge of nature and it
aims to analyze and understand the natural phenomena of the
universe. (Learner will come to the front)

Now, may I request (call a student) please come here in the front.
(The teacher will instruct the learner to find a certain object while
he’s/she’s blindfolded) (Learner will perform)
No sir
(After performing)
Okay class, is he/she finds the object?

Okay, how about this time (teacher will ask again the student to
find the object but this time with direction).
Take 5 steps forward, face right take 3 steps and you’ll find a
table there. Yes, sir

Now class, is he/she finds the object? Because the second one have a direction sir

What do you think is the reason why the first student did not get
the object while the next one got it?
Yes that’s correct, because of the direction that was I given the
second student got the object. Yes, sir!
C. Lesson Proper
Now are you ready to learn about Physics? Motion is movement sir
Our lesson today will be all about Describing Motion.
Who can tell me what is motion?
(The learners will read the definition)
You have a point there, thank you so much.
Motion is a continuous change in position with respect to a
reference point.

Many of the things around us move, some move slowly like the
turtles and the others move much more quickly like the cheetah.
Motion is so common; it seems to be very simple.

It said there that motion is the position respect to a reference

point, but what does it mean?

Reference point in used for comparison to determine if an object

is in motion.
In that area sir
Earlier, student A and student B are moving here in front, who
can tell me where is the reference point of that people.
Yes, very good. So, that what’s point of reference entails us. Distance is the length of the object travelled
sir.
How about distance? Who can tell me what is distance?

Very good! (The learners will read the definition)

Distance refers to the length of the entire path that the object
travelled.

Distance is the total measurement of how far the objects have

travelled from its starting point to its destination.
Let’s take a look for the example in your book page 172. (Learner’s material page 172, figure 5)

(Learner’s material page 172, figure 5)

As we can see, from the point of reference or the starting point,

the dog travelled 10m east (right) then, 5m to the south (down)
and another 10m to the west (left). By adding the distance
travelled by the dog, we get a total of 25 meters.

D. Group Activity
So, to understand more of what I’m saying.
Let me group you into four groups through count-off after I
discussed the mechanics. Our activity for today is entitled “My
Location”.
In this activity, first I will give you a diagram, analyze it with your
group and answer the given questions. After answering, write it
down on manila paper and choose a representative of your group
to present your answers in front. I will give 15 minutes and after Yes, sir!
that we will start the reporting and also you will be graded based
on the rubric. Is that clear class?
This will be the rubric of your activity today.

None sir
(Count-off starts)
Do you have any questions before we proceed?
Okay let’s start the count-off. (Learners will do the activity)
You may now go to your group.
(Performing the activity)

(The learners will analyze the diagram)

The diagram shows the position of the police cars coming from the
Police Station.
Police Station
Questions:
o What is the reference point of the 4 police cars? 4 meters

o What is the total distance of the car A? 4 meters

o What is the position of the car C? 5 meters

o What is the total distance of car D? 2 meters

o What is the position of the car B?

(After 15minutes)
Yes, sir
Time’s up!
Are you ready for the reporting? (Group 1 will report)
(Learners will do the clap)
Let’s start the reporting with the group 1.
Let us give group 1, 3 big clap. (Group 2 will report)
(Learners will do the clap)
Next is the group 2, please come forward.
Let us give group 2, 3 billion clap. Group 3 will report)
(Learners will do the clap)
Let’s start the reporting with the group 3.
Let us give group 1, 3 big clap. Group 4 will report)
(Learners will do the clap)
Let’s start the reporting with the group 1.
Let us give group 1, 3 billion clap

(Learners will go back to their seats)

Back to your seats now and arrange your chairs properly.

In science, motion is defined as the change in position.

We can start describing motion with the question “How far did
the object travel?”

E. Generalization Motion is the movement of the object sir

Now class in your own words, what is motion? Yes, (name of the
student).
Very good! Motion is a continuous change in position
with respect to a reference point
Again, who can define motion?
Very good! Distance refers to the length of the entire
path that the object travelled.
What about distance, what does it mean? (The learners will for the clap)
Very good!
Let us give a let’s go clap for everyone!

F. Evaluation

I guess you are ready for our quiz for today. Please get ½
crosswise papers.

Write only the letter of that correspond to the correct answer to

your paper.

A cat travelled 5meters east from their home then take a steps,
3meters north then, 2meters east and another 4 meters south.

1. Graph the given situation. (5pts)

House

2. What is the reference point of the cat?

14 meters

3. What is the total distance travelled by the cat?

G. Assignment
o Define Displacement?

Goodbye class! Thank you and goodbye sir!
