1) Scope

1.1 This Method Statement covers the method of works and

equipment for the Civil Works, method to be utilized to
control water in excavation and the method of works and
equipment for the installation of Sewage lifting station.

This Method Statement will generally include; clearing,

dewatering, excavation, filling and compaction, installation of
equipment and cables, termination, testing and commissioning.

2) Purpose

2.1 This Method Statement is for the guidance of the project

staff detailed planning, mobilization and execution of Sewage
lifting station at QIT.

2.2 This Method Statement is to ensure the work will be

expedited in an efficient and safe manner in accordance
with all relevant contract documents, utilizing proven
methods and procedures, as detailed herein and as
implemented on previous project.

2.3 This Method Statement will, if deemed necessary, be

revised as and when required to accommodate
circumstantial that cannot be foreseen at any stage.

3) Definitions

Not Used.

4) Responsibilities

4.1 The contractor’s project manager/construction Lead or

their designee is responsible for ensuring that this Method
Statement is fully implemented.

Any amendment to this Method Statement during

construction must be approved by the project manager or
his designee before implementation.

Any records of any changes are to be kept and incorporated

in the final project report or As Built Method Statement
and sent to the client for future reference.

The day to day organization and implementation of the

works covered by this Method Statement is the
responsibility of the project staff as follows:
4.2 Project construction engineer – to ensure that all work
executed according to this Method Statement

4.3 Site foreman – responsible for the implementation and field

control of the works.

4.4 QC engineer – responsible to ensure the quality of the

works.

4.5 The project safety office with the project manager is

responsible that all operations are carried out with due
regard to the safety of all project personnel and property as
well as the general public.

All individual operations will be set up and expedited to

ensure they comply with the project safety manual

5) Scope of work and sequencing

5.1 Prior to starting of the works all necessary permits and

notification of concerned parties must be secured. This
includes filling out of JSA and obtaining the necessary
PTW

5.2 Project construction manager to make sure that, the work

site is formally handed over well in advance of the schedule
starting date of the works.

5.3 The Engineer shall prepare the necessary methods

sketches, detailing setting out coordinates, excavation
profile, Well points locations and referenced to the IFC
drawings.

5.4 Prior to the commencement of construction activities,

complete survey of the existing ground levels shall be
undertaken and recorded. It is preferable that this survey
is jointly taken with MPN representative in order to
minimize rework.

5.5 The site areas shall be cleared of all materials above or at

natural ground surface including trees, bushes, rubbish,
vegetation and other obstructions

5.6 Pegs shall be placed at each intersection location of

marked grid with final level required as indicated on the
drawings. These levels pegs shall form the main means of
control for final site leveling. They shall be periodically
checked throughout the construction period and pegs
damaged by construction equipment shall be restated.

5.7 The removal of topsoil shall be carried out manually in one

layer.

5.8 Road cutting shall be done with concrete cutting machine.

5.9 Topsoil will be stockpiled in a designated area for reuse.

Any surplus or unsuitable materials shall be removed from
site.

5.10 Excavation operations will commence after the removal of

the topsoil.

5.11 Fill shall be compacted in uniform layers.

6.0 Dewatering System

• Well points will be used where necessary to reduce the

surrounding water table below the level of excavation.

• After well points are driven into the ground they are
surrounded with a filter layer to facilitate suction.

• Flexible elbows are used to connect the riser pipes to

header pipes, which in turn are connected to suction
pumps.

• The water is then pumped through flexible hoses or UPVC

pipe or discharge lines to the discharge drainage.

• Once the water table has sufficiently dropped, the

excavation may proceed in dry soil.

7.0 Civil work

7.1 Excavation work

• Clearing above ground shall be done manually using either

machetes or shovels. Material shall be collected and
charted away at designated areas.

• Shovel and diggers shall be used for stripping the topsoil,

excavation and depositing the material nearby, outside the
boundary limits.
• Excavated material shall be verified for suitability prior to
use as fill material.

• Unsuitable material shall be identified and carted away

from site.

• The excavation work shall be carried out in a V – shape to

control backfilling of the pits while exaction work is
ongoing. The surface of the excavated pit will be covered
with water proof material to avoid washing off the sand to
the pits by rain.

• Fill material will be evenly spread with shovel before

compaction.

• Compaction will be manually done with hand rammer.

7.2 Concrete work

• The base for the tanks may be insitu or pre-cast.

• Lowering of the base will be done with crane.

8.0 Sewage Lift Installation

• Prior to the installation of the Tanks, the pumps and all

fittings shall be assembled in Tanks.

• Lowering of the Tanks will be carried out with a crane.

• The Tanks will be lower at least 8 inches above the ground

to avoid the Tanks being covered with earth materials
whenever it rains heavily.

• Installation of the UPVC Pipes and Galvanized pipes shall

be carried out concurrently after the Tanks have been
lowered.

9.0 Cable Laying

Cable laying will be carried out concurrently with the

installation of pipes following the below precautions:

• Ensure trench is clean of waste materials, sharp objects and

debris before starting cable pulling.

• Dress the cables in the trench and make the cables straight.
• Ensure step by step inspection is carried out before sand bedding
between each layers and backfilling and cable loop coiled shall not
obstruct the operational and emergency access.

• Ensure all the debris and waste material are removed from the trench
after cable pulling then sand bedding.

• Ensure the cable is terminated in accordance to project specification.

9.1 The sequence of Electrical installation including tie-in to

load centre

Electrical installation will follow the under listed sequence;

• Mounting/positioning of the electrical panels on the

mounting pedestals.

• Laying of power cable from load centre to the electrical

panels of the Lift station.

• Connection of the power cable to the control panels.

• Earthing.

• Connection of the pumps and float switch cables to the

electrical panels.

• Tie-in/connection of the power cable to the electrical

panels.

• Test and commissioning.

10.0 Control Panel Installation

Installation of the control panels will be done after all other

installations. The panel will be mounted on an enclosed
stand to protect them from environmental hazards.
