SUBJECT

• A part of the sentence that contains the person or thing performing


the action . Who the sentence is about.
Example: Rina enjoys dancing.

The subject is “Rina”.

Verb
• The verb is the action, event or state in the sentence. It is the most
important part in the sentence.

Example: Salil eats pizza.

The verb is “eats”.


OBJECT
• The object is What . It is a noun or pronoun which receives the action of
the verb.

Example: Rohan likes comedy shows.

• “comedy shows. ” is the object.


HOW TO WRITE-
•We use Subject /Verb /Object.
Example: She loves cats.
Exercise –
Find out the subject in the given sentence.
1. Chetan collects toys.
2. The dog has a bone.
3. He runs to school.
4. They threw a party!
5.He is drawing a picture.

ANSWERS -
1. Chetan collects toys.
2. The dog has a bone.
3. He runs to school.
4. They threw a party!
5.He is drawing a picture.
UNDERLINE THE VERB
1. He made a paper airplane.
2. He sailed to Sri Lanka.
3. Ronit ate a giant burger.
4. He walks fastly.
5. Rahim celebrates eid.
6. They prayed in Church.

ANSWERS -
1. He made a paper airplane.
2. He sailed to Sri Lanka.
3. Ronit ate a giant burger.
4. He walks fastly.
5. Rahim celebrates eid.
6. They prayed in the Church.
UNDERLINE THE OBJECT
1. She baked a large cake.
2. The kids like superheroes.
3. He lifts weights.
4. Kriti plays the guitar.
5. Sheena draws the picture.

ANSWERS
1. She baked a large cake.
2. The kids like superheroes.
3. He lifts weights.
4. Kriti plays the guitar.

 DIRECT OBJECT - A direct object answers the question of

EXAMPLE –
 Sheetal catches the ball.

 INDIRECT OBJECT - An indirect object answers the question of

EXAMPLE –
 Mother cooked me a delicious lunch.
For whom the lunch is cooked ?
here. What is cooked ?
Examples:
1. Rajan brought her a glass of water.

[indirect object] [direct object]


To identify Direct Object -> What did Rajan bring ? – A glass of water
To identify Indirect object -> for whom did Rajan bring ? - her

2. Father sent me a gift.

[indirect object] [direct object]


To identify Direct Object -> What did father send ? – A gift
To identify Indirect object -> To whom did father send ? - me
Every sentence has two parts - Subject and
Predicate.
•Subject –A noun , a pronoun or a group of words acting as a noun is
known as subject of sentence.

•Predicate – the second part of the sentence that says something


about the subject is known as Predicate.
Example: English is my favourite subject.
Here, English is acting as a noun so it is Subject and underlined words are
Predicate.
Sometimes, the subject comes in the middle or end of the sentence.
Example – Did you finish your writings ?
