Final Assignment, Total Marks-30
Last day of submission: 4th June, 2020
Name: ________ ID No. : _____

There are SIX questions. Each question is worth 5 points Please answer all the
questions. Justify your answer.

𝜋
Q1. Let 𝑧 = sin(𝑥 2+𝑦 2 )
(a) Find the rate of change of 𝑧 with respect to 𝑥 at the point (−2, 0) where 𝑦 is held fixed.
(b) Find the rate of change of 𝑧 with respect to 𝑦 at the point (−2, 0) where 𝑥 is held fixed.

Q2. Evaluate ∬𝑅 𝑒 5𝑥𝑦 𝑑𝐴, where 𝑅 is the region enclosed by the lines 𝑦 = 3 𝑥 and 2𝑦 = 𝑥
2 4
and the hyperbolas 𝑦 = 𝑥 and 𝑦 = 𝑥 .

Q3. a) Suppose that a semicircular wire has the equation 𝑥 = √9 − 𝑦 2 and that
its mass density is 𝛿(𝑥, 𝑦) = 5 – 𝑥. Find the mass of the wire.

b) Use Green’s Theorem to evaluate the integral

∮ 3𝑥 2 𝑦 2 𝑑𝑥 + (5𝑦 3 − 𝑥 3 𝑦 2 )𝑑𝑦,
𝐶

where the counterclockwise oriented curve 𝐶 is given by the boundary of the region enclosed
1
by 𝑦 = 4𝑥 2 and 𝑥 = 16 𝑦 2 .

Q4. Evaluate the surface integral ∬𝜎(𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 )𝑧 𝑑𝑆, where 𝜎 is the portion of the sphere
𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 + 𝑧 2 = 9 above the plane 𝑧 = 2.

Q5. Find the flux of the vector field 𝐹(𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑧) = 3𝑥𝑖 − 5𝑦𝑗 + 7𝑧𝑘; across 𝜎 where 𝜎 is the
portion of the cone 𝑧 2 = 4(𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 ) between the planes 𝑧 = 2 and 𝑧 = 4, oriented by
upward unit normal.
Q6. Use the Divergence Theorem to find the flux of the field 𝐹(𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑧) = 𝑥 3 𝑖 + 𝑦 3 𝑗 + 𝑥𝑦𝑘;
across σ where σ is the portion of the surface 𝑧 = 4 − 𝑥 2 − 𝑦 2 above the 𝑥𝑦 −plane,
oriented by upward normal.
