IV. PROCEDURE
A. Approach Task-based Language Teaching Approach is a TESOL approach that has roots in the
Communicative Language Teaching method, where the teaching process is done
entirely through communicative tasks. To fully acquire language, it must have real
meaning by being used in natural contexts. With Task-based Learning, teachers ask
students to complete purposeful tasks that elicit the use of the target language.
B. Strategy Cooperative Learning encourages students of mixed abilities to work together by
promoting small group or whole class activities. Through verbally expressing their
ideas and responding to others the students will develop their self-confidence, as
well as enhance their communication and critical thinking skills which are vital
throughout life.
C. Method Student-Centered Approach. Teachers and students play an equally active role in
the learning process. The teacher’s primary role is to coach and facilitate student
learning and overall comprehension of material, and to measure student learning

Skimming - Skimming is sometimes referred to as gist reading where you’re trying to glance over the
material to grasp the main idea. The way you do this is to read the first and last paragraph and check for
any dark headings. Skimming may help in order to know what the text is about at its most basic level. You
might typically do this with a magazine or newspaper and would help you mentally and quickly shortlist
those articles which you might consider for a deeper read. You might typically skim to search for a name in
a telephone directory.
Examples of Skimming
Scanning - Picture yourself visiting a historical city, guide book in hand. You would most probably just scan
the guide book to see which site you might want to visit. Scanning involves getting your eyes to quickly
scuttle across sentence and is used to get just a simple piece of information. You’ll be searching for specific
words or phrases that will give you more information and answer questions you may have. Interestingly,
research has concluded that reading off a computer screen actually inhibits the pathways to effective
scanning and thus, reading of paper is far more conducive to speedy comprehension of texts.
Something students sometimes do not give enough importance to is illustrations. These should be
included in your scanning. Pay special attention to the introduction and the conclusion.
Examples of Scanning:
1. A google search list on the internet.
2. A bus/airplane schedule
3. A conference guide
4. A graph

Lesson Plan
1st Semester 2020-2021
Extensive reading involves learners reading texts for enjoyment and to develop general reading skills. It
can be compared with intensive reading, which means reading in detail with specific learning aims and
tasks.
Example
A teacher reads a short story with learners, but does not set them any tasks except to read and listen.
In the classroom
Extensive reading is often overlooked, especially as a classroom activity. Teachers often feel it is not an
effective use of class time or are just uncomfortable with the extended silence. Learners can be
encouraged to read extensively by setting up a class library, encouraging review writing, and incorporating
reading of books into the syllabus, and dedicating some class time to quiet reading.
Intensive reading involves learners reading in detail with specific learning aims and tasks. It can be
compared with extensive reading, which involves learners reading texts for enjoyment and to develop
general reading skills.
Example
The learners read a short text and put events from it into chronological order.
In the classroom
Intensive reading activities include skimming a text for specific information to answer true or false
statements or filling gaps in a summary, scanning a text to match headings to paragraphs, and scanning
jumbled paragraphs and then reading them carefully to put them into the correct order.
