The tank shown in the figure is filled with water and pressurized air on top of
water free surface. The air is kept under a pressure of 9.81 kPa. A 30°
inclined rectangular gate AB (2m length by 3m width) is used to hold water
from flowing outside the tank. The gate mass is 18476 kg. It is required to
find the water height H at which the gate is about to open (i.e. reaction forces
at A = zero) using the following procedures:
(a) By applying the force on a flat surface method (i.e. finding normal force
FR and yR)
(b) By applying the force on a curved surface method (i.e. finding FH, FV,
yR and xR)
