PVHS and RCMS Parent Message Regarding Masks 21.08.26

The superintendent of the Nye County School District informs parents that both Pahrump Valley High School and Round Mountain Combined School are experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks. As a result, the State Health Department is requiring all students and staff to wear masks indoors and on buses starting August 27 until cases decrease. Athletic activities are also canceled for the week to reduce spread. Students without masks will not be allowed on buses or at school, and those whose parents do not allow masks should stay home and access assignments online.

August 26, 2021

To the Parents of Students at PVHS and RCMS:

The State Health Department has deemed both PVHS and RCMS as experiencing an outbreak of
COVID and is therefore requiring all students and staff to wear masks while indoors and on school
buses starting on Friday, August 27. This will be in effect until the State Health Department
informs us our cases are low enough that we can then go back to not requiring masks. Please
understand that we have no choice in this matter. We legally are required to follow the directives
from the State Department of Health. Unfortunately, this will also require us to cancel all athletic
activities for the remainder of the week for both schools. Hopefully, by wearing masks, we will be
able to reduce our COVID spread quickly, and we can get back to no masks soon. This will also
help support our athletes and give them a better opportunity to be able to play each week.

Please understand that students will not be allowed on the bus without masks or to stay at school
without masks. We will have masks for students who need them. If you will not allow your child
to wear a mask, you should keep them home, contact the school’s attendance clerk, and have your
students check Canvas for their assignments.

Thank you for your support and understanding as we try to get our district through this pandemic
successfully.

Sincerely,

Warren Shillingburg, PhD
