3. Calculate the standard enthalpy change values for the following reactions
a) 2NH3(g) + 3O2(g) + 2CH4(g) 2HCN(g) + 6H2O(g)
∆Hɵ values NH3(g) = - 45.90, O2(g) = 0, CH4(g) =-74.87, HCN(g) =108.9,
H2O(g) = -241.8 Kjmol-1
[5 marks]

4. Predict whether there is likely to be an increase, a decrease or no change in the

entropy of the system in each of the following reactions. In each case give your
reasons
a) HCl(g) + NH3(g) NH4Cl(s)

b) SO2(g) + 1/2O2(g) SO3(g)

[3×2 =06 marks]

5. Calculate the ∆ S surroundings for the following:

based on the following half-cell reactions

Zn2+(aq) + 2e ⇋ Zn(s) E = -0.76 V

Ag2O(s) + H2O(l) + 2e ⇋ 2Ag(s) + 2OH-(aq) E = +0.33 V
