Aim: Come up with the cam profile from the observed displacement diagram.
Procedure:
1. Measure the base-radius “𝑅𝑏” of the cam (i.e. minimum distance between axis of rotation
of the cam and the outer surface of the cam).
2. Rotating the cam manually, come to the position where the “knife-edge” of the follower
touches the point on cam which is at “𝑅𝑏” distance from the axis (this position is now your
datum).
3. Set the dial gauge to zero, and the pointer of the protractor to “0 degrees”.
4. By manually rotating the cam in intervals of 10𝑜 , note down the corresponding
displacement of follower and tabulate the data.
5. From the obtained observation , sketch the cam profile.
6. Match it with the profile of the cam provided.

Spherical Follower and Cam (Base Radius Rb=11.22)
1. Sideways motion in the stand of the knife edge can cause error in measurement.
2. If the cam is bound loosely on the shaft it can cause slipping under high pressure.
3. Pointer and dial indicator might not be set at exactly 0 deg
