literary selections; using tools and mechanisms in locating library resources; extracting
information and noting details from texts to write a précis, summary, or paraphrase;
distinguishing between and using literal and figurative language and verbal and non-verbal
cues; use phrases, clauses, and sentences meaningfully and appropriately.

 PRINTED MEDIA-Printed media are materials used to
inform, instruct and entertain people. Some materials
may be used as learning aids used in the classroom,
training materials used in workshops, seminars or
trainings or as information materials to announce
upcoming events or products.
Why use Print Media
1.Print Media is a proponent of Literacy
Print media is essentially written media. One must be
able to read and to patronize print.
2. Print media is portable
Print media is the most portable platform of media. Its
size and weight allow people to carry it everywhere.
3. Print media is an independent form of media
Unlike other forms of media, print does not require a
separate medium or technology to transmit or receive
information
4. Print media has a structure
Correct Grammar and proper sentence construction are a
must in print media. Arranging material to follow a
layout is required before publishing. The structure is
given emphasis in print media.
TYPES OF PRINTED MEDIA
BOOKS
Books are the oldest form and the most common form of
print media used by many people.
It is the best source of knowledge and information.

Functions of Books
 To gain knowledge from the people who came before
 It is used as a teaching aid
 It provides entertainment
 They also serve as better sources of information
NEWSPAPERS
Newspapers are popular form of print media. It is
published daily or weekly and it covers a variety of
topics from local and international news. It provides
information as well as entertainment.

NEWSLETTERS
A newsletter is a printed  report
containing news concerning the activities of
a business or an organization that is sent to its
members, customers, employees or other
subscribers. 

MAGAZINES
Magazines are printed materials that provide information
in various fields.
Usually a magazine comes periodically, either weekly,
monthly, quarterly or annually.

HANDOUTS
A document given to students for them to remember the
lesson and at the same time apply the information they
receive.
POSTERS
It is a temporary promotion of an idea, product, or event
put up in a public space f or mass consumption.
Typically, posters are designed to be both eye-catching
and informative. include both textual and graphic
elements, although a poster may be either wholly
graphical or wholly text. 
BANNER
Banner can be a flag or other piece of cloth bearing a
symbol, logo, slogan or other message. A flag whose
design is the same as the shield in a coat of arms is
called a banner of arms. Also, a bar-shaped piece of non-
cloth advertising material sporting a name, slogan, or
other marketing message.
BILLBOARD
Billboard is a large outdoor advertising structure
(a billing board), typically found in high-traffic
areas such as alongside busy roads. Billboards
present large advertisements to passing pedestrians
and drivers. Typically showing witty slogans and
distinctive visuals, billboards are highly visible in
the top designated market areas.
BROCHURE
A brochure is an informative paper document
(often also used for advertising) that can be folded
into a template, pamphlet, or leaflet. A brochure can
also be a set of related unfolded papers put into a
pocket folder or packet. Brochures are promotional
documents, primarily used to introduce
a company, organization, products or services and
inform prospective customers or members of the
public of the benefits.

Discuss how to get information from printed media.
1. Look at the picture
Most of the newspaper articles come with a picture that relates to
the story.
2. Read the first two sentences of the article
The first two sentences are normally the summary of the entire
article.
3. Look for the foreground and background information.
Foreground information is more specific, more in depth and
tends to be the most current information.
Answer following questions based on the news article:
What is the news about?
Who are in the news?
Who received the first dose of vaccine?
When was the vaccine arrived? /When did the
vaccination started?
Why there is a need for vaccine?
How did the country get the first batch of vaccine?
