Mercedes S680 Guard Packs A V12 and Can Withstand AK-47 Bullets
Dubbed as the Mercedes-Benz S680 Guard 4Matic, the new armored Mercedes is perfect for the head
of state, business tycoons, warlords, and kingpins who naturally have enemies wishing to hunt them
down. If you want a car that would keep you safe in a literal warzone while delivering the last word on
luxury, then the new Mercedes S680 is built for you. An epitome of poshness that the 3-pointed Star
brand can offer, the S680 Guard lets you sip champagne inside the cabin while someone is trying to
shoot you down with an AK-47.
Looking just like any other S-Class from the outside, the armored model comes with a VPAM VR10
certification, the highest ballistic test level available for civilian cars. This means that the vehicle is
almost immune to gunshots and explosions. Although the exact extent of the protection offered by the
S680 Guard is not freely disclosed for obvious security and confidentiality reasons, it is safe to say that
the car can ward off rounds from an assault rifle like the AK-47 or a 7.62x54R from a powerful sniper
like the Dragonuv. Congratulations, you live to fight another day.
Available with the long wheelbase, the handsome sedan has been completely reengineered by
Mercedes to protect its “important” occupants against imminent gunfire. The windows are almost 4-
inches thick in the S680 Guard, offering resistance to an array of magazines, and are hydraulically
operated due to the sheer weight of the glass. Hydraulic operations also ensure that the windows can
be rolled up in time, in case someone decides to sabotage the electronic power system. The Michelin
PAX run-flat tires ensure you an additional 19-miles window even after being punctured by bullets, in
case you need a quick getaway from a messy situation.
All this armor has significantly increased the weight of the S680, which now tips the scale at 9,259
pounds. Mercedes needed to calibrate the gearbox and steering to adjust to this herculean increase in
weight. Powered by a bi-turbo 6.0-liter V12 engine mated to an all-wheel drive configuration, the
armored Mercedes makes a colossal 604 HP and 612 lb-ft of torque. Due to the extreme weight of the
model, Mercedes had to electronically limit the top speed of the model to 118 mph.
Unsurprisingly, it takes 51 days to build a single unit of the Mercedes S680 Guard. There is an array of
add-ons to select from for some extra dollars. This includes a refrigerator in the trunk which can be
accessed from the cabin, an in-built fire extinguishing system, an air filtration system for keeping
smoke and tear gas at bay, and even an oxygen tank if the situation gets too dire. Marked at $650,000
apiece, the ones needing a Mercedes S680 Guard would not even throw a look at the price tag before
buying.
