Lesson Plan 2.1

Lesson Topic - Attributes of Public Safety Forces

I. Introduction (5mins)

1. Prayer before the start of the class.


2. Introduce Instructor to the trainees.

3. This lesson is intended to provide the trainees with an understanding on
the attributes of maneuver forces.

II. Self-Discipline (20mins)

Self-Discipline
-means self control, which is a sign of inner strength and control of yourself,
your action and your reactions.

-is one of the most important and useful skills everyone should posses. This
skill is essential in every area of life, and though most people acknowledge its
importance, very few do something to strength.

-gives you the power to stick to your decisions and follow them through,
without changing your mind, and is therefore, one of the important requirements for
achieving goals.

Importance of Self-Discipline
1. Perseverance
2. The ability not to give up, despite failure and setbacks.
3. Self control
4. The ability to resist distractions or temptations

Kinds of Discipline

1. Positive Discipline – is based on praise any encouragement.


2. Gentle Discipline – process on preventing problems.
3. Boundary – based discipline, focuses on setting limits and making rules
clear up front.
4. Behavior Modification - focuses on using positive and negative
Consequences
5. Emotion – coaching a step discipline process that focuses on teaching
about feelings.

III. Courage (20mins)

Instructor’s Note: Show video presentation on courage.


After, ask the trainees for their reaction on the vide
presented. Conduct discussion.

- The quality of mind or spirit that enabled a person to face difficulty, danger,
pain, etc without fear.

- It is also called bravery.

Kinds of Courage

1. Physical Courage – this is the courage most people think of first bravery
at the risk of bodily harm or death.
2. Social Courage – this type is also a very familiar to most of us involves
the risk of social embarrassment or conclusion, unpopularity or rejection.

4. Intellectual Courage - this speak our willingness to engage with


challenging ideas, to question our thinking and to the risk of making
mistakes.

5. Moral Courage – this involves doing the right thing, particularly when risks
involve shame, opposition or the disapproval of other.

6. Emotional courage - this type of courage opens us to feeling the full


spectrum of positive emotions at the risk of encountering the negative ones.

7. Spiritual Courage - this fortifies us when we grapple with questions about


faith, purpose and meaning, either in a religious framework.

IV. Adaptability/Stress Tolerance (15mins)

- able to change or be changed in order to fit or work better in some situation


or for some purpose.

Types of Adaptability

1. Flexibility – the quality of being adaptable or variable.

2. Pliability – adaptability of mind and character.

How to raise your Stress Tolerance

1. Find opportunity in the challenge an optimistic attitude will help you tolerate
a lot more stress with ease.

2. Look at the bigger picture by putting stress in context, you restore your will
to preserve and you make better choices about how much time and energy to
dedicate to the problem.

3. Build-in recovery time our bodies evolved to tolerate stress in short bursts:
to put all our energy toward a threat, then relax again when it’s gone. Breaks
between stresses allow us to recover. Try active hobbies such as sports volunteers
work, teach free relaxation.

V. Honor System (15mins)

- System whereby the students of a school, are put on their honor to observe
certain rules in order to minimize the administration supervision or to promote
honesty.

Honor Code: On my honor, I uphold the truth in words and in deeds at


all times.
Instructor’s Note: Ask the trainees: Why is Honor System important?
Conduct group discussion on the importance of the Honor Code.

VI. Cultural Diversity (20mins)

- the cultural variety and cultural differences that exist in the world, a society
or an institution.

Effects of Cultural diversity.


1. Having a sense of unity.
2. Working better together
3. Learning more about other cultures

Typical Examples of Cultural Diversity in the work place


1. Language – linguistic diversity helps your project a clear image of
inclusion to the public.

2. Age – age is often over looked when considering workplace diversity


but can be a point of major divergence in experience and knowledge.

3. Religion – religious diversity in the workplace creates a need for


effective communication, respect and empathy among workers.

4. Race – business and government continue to work on integrating
their work forces to better reflect the general population.

VII. Video Presentation: World’s Toughest Cops in the Philippines (15mins)

Instructor’s Note: Conduct discussion/reaction of the


trainees on the video presented.

VIII. SUMMARY (5mins)

 Attribute is the quality or characteristic of a person, thing, or group. It is


a symbol of a particular person, office, status. Maneuver forces needs discipline,
courage, adaptability to the nature of work, honor system and should value
cultural diversity.

 Essential attributes are developed consciously during training and on-


the-job these are qualities are needed for successful job performance and
overall personal effectiveness.
