Department of Civil Engineering Test Report of Concrete Mix Design

1. The mix design was conducted to achieve a target compressive strength of 30 MPa at 28 days for severe exposure conditions. 2. Laboratory tests were performed on the cement, fine aggregate, and coarse aggregate to determine their properties. 3. A trial mix proportion was developed that met the strength and workability requirements, with a water-cement ratio of 0.45, cement content of 400 kg/m3, and a slump value between 50-75 mm.

Target Mean Strength of Concrete: As per IS: 10262 -2019, the target mean
strength at 28 days for M30 concr ete mix is 36.6 N/mm 2 . Concrete mix es for
target mean streng th are design ed as per th e above code, and the proportions
for one cubic meter of con crete are calcu lated. The maximum water cement
ratio for moder ate exposure and R.C.C.is 0.45 and minimu m cement con ten t
is 320.00 kg/m 3 as per IS: 456-2000. The water content is adjusted and the
modified propor tion is suggested which g ives the required workab ility and
strength. Specif ication of IS: 10262 -2019 is followed.
From Table 4 of IS 10262 -2019, maximu m water content is 191.58 kg/m 3
(For 50 mm to 75 mm slu mp) for 20mm and down size aggregate. As Super
Plasticizer is used the water conten t is may be reduced up to 20% and abov e.
The water considered is 172.42 kg/m 3 for this mix. Cemen t content will be
360.00 kg/m 3 for the consider ed w/c ratio and water content.
Using the design steps and formu lae g iven in IS: 10262 – 2019, the
fine aggreg ate and coarse aggr egate contents are deter mined as,
Fine aggregate : 699.33 kg/ m 3
Coarse aggregate (20 mm Downsize -60%) : 693.28 kg/ m 3
Coarse aggregate (12 mm Downsize-40%) : 462.19 kg/ m 3

Thus the trail mix proportion is tabulated as follows.

Chemical Cement Fine
Water, Coarse aggregate in
Mix 3 admixtur e in aggregate in
kg./m kg/m 3
kg./m 3 kg/m 3 kg/m 3

M30 172.42 8.0 400.00 699.33 1155.48

is based on saturated and surface dry condition of aggregates.

CONCLUSION: The designed mix gives th e required str ength and workability
