There are two main types of environmental analysis for organizations: external and internal. External analysis focuses on factors outside the organization such as competitors, economic conditions, and technology. Internal analysis examines internal factors such as assets, strategy, and knowledge. Common techniques for external analysis are PESTLE and five forces analysis. PESTLE looks at political, economic, social, technological, legal and environmental factors. Five forces analyzes suppliers, buyers, new entrants, substitutes and industry competitors. Internal techniques include MOST analysis of the organization's mission, objectives, strategy and tactics, and a resource audit of physical, financial, human and intellectual resources. SWOT analysis then summarizes the results of these external and internal analyses to identify opportunities
