CONDITIONALS

A) Write 5 examples of the Zero Conditional, using “when” and “if”:

 If you heat ice, it melts.


 When it rains, the grass gets wet.
 If he studies hard, he’ll do well in the exam.
 When I talk to my dad, I feel homesick.
 If I run, I get tired.

B) Choose the correct item and underline it (First Conditional ):

1. If I move / I’ll move to Boston, I live / I’ll live on Main Street.


2. If you call / you’ll call your mother, she’ll be very happy.
3. If the mechanic fixes our car on time, we drive / we’ll drive to Center Ville.
4. If it rains / it’ll rain today, we won’t go to the park.
5. If I’m not in a hurry tonight, I write / I’ll write to her.
6. If she isn’t / won’t be sick, she’ll go to school.
7. If they’re / they’ll be tired tomorrow, they don’t go / won’t go to work.

C) Unscramble the sentences (First Conditional):

E) Complete the sentences with these phrases (Second Conditional):

miserable. 4. If I started writing poetry,  my English teacher would be surprised  5 If
Peter ate less, he wouldn’t be so fat. 6. If my little sister did something wrong, 6  I´m
sure she´d tell me 7  If I were a famous model, people would see my photo
everywhere.

F) Complete the sentences. Use the correct form of the verbs in brackets (Second
Conditional):

Example: I’m not ill, but if I ..... were ..... ill, I wouldn’t go ....... to school. (be / go)

1. The weather report says there will be snow tomorrow. If it. snows Iwill stay at

G) What would you do in each situation? Write UNREAL PRESENT situations


(Second Conditional):

1. You find a fly in your soup. If I found a fly in my soup, I would complain to
the manager.

H) Read these situations. Say how you would feel (Second Conditional): Example:
your boy / girlfriend leaves you

If my girlfriend left me I would feel miserable.

1. you have nothing to do

If I had nothing to do, I would go for a walk

2. you are lost in a foreign country

If I was lost abroad, I would locate a police station and tell them what happened.

3. your pet dies if my pet died

I would cry a lot and lose my appetite for a few days

4. you see an enormous spider in the bathroom

if i see a huge spider in the bathroom i would scream a lot and run away
5. you split your jeans in the street

If the jeans were ripped on the street, I would come home to change them or buy
new ones

6. someone steals your coat

If someone steals my coat, I would chase them to a stop

7. you fail an important test

If I failed an important test, I would fall into depression but then I would
recover and keep trying

8. you win some money in a competition

if i won money in a competition i would be happy and see if i need it for


something important or i would save it

Write 10 instructions you can tell a new coworker in your company, using the
Conditionals 0,1 and 2

 If you do not do the payroll, you will have problems with the employees

 if you are late, it is noted in a book

 If you have any permission, you will not be denied leaving the company

 if you steal something, you will be fired


 if you do your job well, it would be rewarded

 If lunch time is until 12:30, and it is past the hour, it will be discounted

 If you have a meeting with the department of bosses, you should not be

late

 if you finish early, ask your boss if you can leave early

 If you take a day off without permission, you will be fired


 If you can be courteous to other people, they will respect you.
