Background Of Study
Most of the Indonesian people are people who master two languages (bilingual). Every
ethnic group in Indonesia have their own regional language so that someone who is born As
Indonesians, in general, they use regional languages as the mother tongue and also the language
of communication in the surrounding environment. In addition, Indonesian is also very easily
accessible on electronic media, such as television. This is what makes Indonesian society a
bilingual society.
The social function of language is as a communication tool to interact and as a way to
identify a group of people (Simatupang, 2018). According to Iryani (2017: 1) language is a
human communication tool in conveying messages between others. Sociolinguistics is the study
of language associated with conditions in society. One of them is the selection and use of
language. The object of sociolinguistic study is the choice of language that exists in a
multilingual society, such as people who master two or several languages which must be chosen
when speaking.
"Code mixing is the use of two or more languages by incorporating elements of one
language into one language into another, where the language elements or their variations that are
inserted in another language are no longer separate." Rohmadi, 2010)” According to Suwandi in
Sundoro (2018:131) “which characterizes code mixing, namely: (1) the use of two or more
languages for it to take place in informal, relaxed, and intimate situations; (2) there is nothing in
the language situation that requires code mixing; and (3) code mixing can be in the form of using
words, clauses, idioms, greetings, and so on.” It can be seen that the salient feature of code
mixing is a relaxed or informal situation.
In the world of film, we often encounter languages that experience code-mixing, this is
what makes the writer interested in analyzing code-mixing in films, and on this occasion, the
incident of code-mixing Film imperfect the series is an Indonesian comedy drama web series

RESEARCH METHODS
This research uses qualitative research methods. Qualitative research is research that is
used to study the condition of natural objects, where the researcher is the key instrument
(Sugiyono, 2005). The difference between qualitative research and quantitative research is in the
data and utilizes the theory of explanatory material and ends with the form of theory. Method
Qualitative attention to data on aspects of a deep understanding of a problem (Husaini and
Purnomo, 2004: 4). Qualitative research is a form of research that has the aim of understanding a
phenomenon about what is experienced by the research subject such as behavior, perception,
motivation, action, etc. holistically, and with
way of description in the form of words and language, in a special context that is natural and by
utilizing various natural methods, (Moleong, 2005: 6). This type of research is descriptive
qualitative research. This study aims to describe code mixing and code switching in the film
Imperfect The Series episodes 3 and 4 by Ernest Prakasa.
Data analysis used descriptive qualitative method. Data and data sources were obtained
by watching the film Imperfect The Series. Data collection techniques used listening techniques
and note-taking techniques (Mahsun, 2007: 92). The data analysis technique uses content
analysis by classifying data (Suharsaputra, 2012: 187), presenting data and drawing conclusions.
This research was conducted to obtain data in the form of code-mixing in the film
Imperfect The Series by Ernest Prakasa, which this research can explain the data of the research
results. Film is an electronic media that presents in the form of audio-visual, images, and words.
The results of this study obtained data that showed mixed
code and code switching. There are two code mixes obtained from the film Imperfect The Series
in episodes 3 and 4 during Prita's dialogue with Netty, Netty Prita and Maria. The following is an
example of code mixing in the film Imperfect The Series by Ernest Prakasa.
Episode 3
8:10, Prita : Net, sabtu besok lu gawe gak ? (gawe = kerja)
Netty : kayaknya gua off dah ngapain emang. (off = libur/gak kerja)
Prita : Ikut lomba tektok yuk ! di meet and greet adek gua. (meet and greet = bertemu dan
menyapa)
10:54, Netty : hei girlsss !!! sini kumpul mulai sekarang maria gua tunjuk sebagai pelatih dancer
tektok kita. (girlss=cewe/perempuan) (dancer=penari)
In the data above, it is found that mixed code mixing involves Javanese, English and
Indonesian languages. Based on the data in episode 3, the code mix used is the sentence " Net,
sabtu besok lu gawe gak ?" "gawe" which is Javanese. The sentence contains the meaning of
"work".
Episode 4
1:24, Netty : ladies ladies aku, pada kemana aja sih gua car icariin juga. (ladies=wanita)
Pritta : kok lu kaga gawe ? (kaga=tidak) (gawe=kerja)
4:07, Netty : eemm dont dont finally. (finally=akhirnya)
15:35, Maria : ngapunten . (ngapunten=maaf)
Maria : permisi aa ganteng teteh cantik, saya izin mengamen atuh. (aa,teteh=kaka)
23:06, Netty : udah ya! Lagian juga gua sama don don masih fine fine aja kok tadi juga,
pokoknya kita harus positive five. (fine=baik) (positive five=positif lima)
The code mixing in the data above also involves Indonesian, Sundanese and Javanese.
This can be seen in the data for episode 4, which, in addition to the words, I have given an
explanation.
CONCLUSION
Based on the results of research and analysis conducted in the film Imperfect The Series by
Ernest Prakasa, there are code-mixing events, this has several related conclusions as follows.
Code mixing that occurred in the film Imperfect The Series by Ernest Prakasa. namely
the use of Indonesian, Javanese, Sundanese and English. The factors that cause code mixing and
code switching are influenced by background, interlocutor, speaker, subject of conversation, and
evoke a sense of humor.
