Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board
On the
Technological revolution in transportation
Introduction
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board is an
agency of the Republic of the Philippines under the Department of
Transportation. Who are drawn together to attain a common goal
of finding the best way on how should we solve modern
transportation problems with modern solution that will benefit
everyone who uses transportation. LTFRB encourages the
transportation committees worldwide to recognize the benefits
that technological revolution may bring to change the
transportation industry.
Background
Nowadays Driver-less cars operate through city streets. Drones
delivering packages. Autonomous ships navigating the seas.
Revolutionary changes in technology are taking us to the threshold
of a bold and extraordinary era in transportation. These
technologies promise improvements in mobility, safety, efficiency,
and convenience, but do not guarantee them. Will the
technological revolution reduce congestion and pollution or make
them worse by encouraging more personal trips and more frequent
freight shipments? It needs to sharply curb greenhouse gas
emissions to slow the rate of climate change and respond to more
climate-related extreme weather. It must serve a growing
population and cope with worsening highway congestion. It needs
to maintain and upgrade a massive system of roads, bridges, ports,
waterways, airports, and public transit and determine how to pay
for those improvements.
Issue
Will technological revolution in transportation reduce congestion
and pollution?
Position
Technological revolution in transportation will not reduce
congestion but it can reduce pollution.
Comments
Will technological revolution in transportation reduce pollution?
Yes because scientist, experts and innovators had shown that
electric is the best way to go to reduce carbon emissions because
electric cars are four times more efficient than gas powered
vehicles. That means if everyone in the world makes the switch the
earth’s carbon dioxide will be reduced. According to researchers at
the International Monetary Fund and Georgetown University:
Based on how quickly horses and buggies disappeared in the early
1900s, the researchers argue, more than 90 per cent of all
passenger vehicles in the U.S., Canada, Europe and other rich
countries could be electric by 2040 ("Future of Electric Cars
Predicted By Undergraduate's Research With IMF Economists -
Georgetown University", 2018). With everyone driving electric
greenhouse gases will go down, while green energy and green jobs
will go up because of high demand.
Recommendation
Government should make new roads and pathways for all the
vehicle to avoid congestion. Also improve the public transportation
system to have faster and safer transportation for the people so
that they will not buy their own private vehicles to assure their
safety in transportation. Also if we will continue using electronic
vehicles, we shall use more of solar energy as a source of electricity
because nowadays we use geothermal energy as a source of
electricity so that the release of carbon dioxide on electric
companies due to burning of fossil fuels will be lessen.
