QUOTES EXERCISE

Write your main idea at the top of the page (don’t worry if this might change later).

Choose four or five quotes that could help you support that main idea.

Type those quotes below your main idea (use quotation marks for the quote, add the
page number in parentheses after the quote, and add a period after the parentheses).

For each quote, write one or two sentences explaining why these quotes could be important
for your paper. Do they:
 show a more complicated view of the theme you are writing about?
 show a turning point in the book or in a character’s life?
 teach us about a larger social or political issue related to your main idea?
 show us a deeper, more thoughtful side of a character?
 show a character thinking, speaking or behaving in a way related to your main idea?

Now look again at your quotes and explanations. What order might be best for presenting them?
Cut and paste if necessary to put them in the order that would be best.

Post this in Moodle before the end of class on Thursday.
