S.No. Molecular Formula Number of Structural Isomers: Organic Chemistry

The document provides steps to determine the number of structural isomers for different molecular formulas. It instructs students to start with the longest possible chain, then shorten the chain to draw positional isomers. It also notes that cyclic and acyclic structures should be drawn if double bond equivalents are present, and that bicyclic and spiro compounds are considered cyclic. An answer key is then provided with the molecular formula and number of structural isomers for 22 examples.

ORGANIC CHEMISTRY : MS CHOUHAN & TEAM CLASS : XI-MICRO DPP-58

Dear Students,
This DPP gives you an idea about number of constutional isomers so draw and check.
Number of structural isomers to any molecular formula can be written by the following strategy
follow the given steps.
Step-I Strart with the longest possible chain.
Step-II Shorten the chain by one carbon and write all positional isomers
Step-III Shorten the chain by one more carbon. Two carbons to be added as two methyl groups
or a single ethyl group.
Step-IV Draw cyclic & acyclic structure if DBE is present.
Bicyclo and spiro compound will be considered as cyclo compounds.
