“ Meghalaya : Culture & Religion”
By ABC
The state of Meghalaya has many tribes and race living together in harmony. As such, there is a myriad of traditional dances and music of
Meghalaya. The music of Meghalaya is characterized by folk songs and music accentuated by traditional instruments. These folk songs relate
tales of birth, marriage, love and other issues. The state of Meghalaya also has a flair for western music with many rock bands from this part of
the country taking part in rock concerts. The state has also hosted some of the major rock concerts of popular national and international
bands. The Garos generally sing folk songs relating to birth, marriage, festivals, love and heroic deeds. The songs are sung on the music of drums
and flutes. The Khasis and Jaintias are particularly fond of songs which praise the nature like lakes, waterfalls, hills etc. and also express love for
their land. They use different types of musical instruments like drums, duitara and instruments similar to guitar, flutes, pipes and cymbals.
Meghalaya's main ethnic communities, each having its own distinctive customs and cultural traditions are the Khasis (of Mon-Khmer ancestry),
the Garos (of Tibeto-Burman origin) and the Jaintias said to be from South East Asia. The common trait binding all three communities is its
matrilineal system in which the family linage is taken from the mother's side. The people of Meghalaya are known to be hospitable, cheerful and
friendly
Traditionally, the Khasis believe that their religion is God given and is based on the belief of one supreme God, the creator 'U BleiNongthaw' A
Khasi is a deeply religious person, who has an intense love of life. He believes that life is God's greatest gift and he has to account for it again in
the hereafter. The Jaintias and Khasis have the same religion, although the Jaintias are more influenced by Hinduism. They have a superstition
that the Jam, like the KhasiThlen, is an evil spirit bringing riches to its owner and disease or death to its enemies or victims. The Garos believe in
one supreme Creator, Rabuga, who is the sustainer and commander of the world. The other spirits are the representatives of the supreme
Creator. The spirits connected to the Garo's agricultural life, are appeased by sacrifices but never worshipped. The headman is an integral part of
the village and acts as religious head. However, many members of the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo communities have converted to Christianity and one
can see a number of churches as well as temples, mosques, gurudwaras and monasteries in Meghalaya.
“ Arunachal Pradesh : Culture & Religion”
By ABC
Once Mahatma Gandhi Ji said, “ A nation’s culture resides in the heart and soul of its people”. In the same way, Arunachal
Pradesh is well known for its ancient culture, traditions and practices. The people of Arunachal Pradesh and their hearts are
so pure with moral ethics and cultural values. Pay a visit to Arunachal Pradesh once, and you will never feel like coming back.
The Land of Dawnlit Mountains is known for its famous scriptures and historical importance in the past as well as for its
dance and traditions
Unlike most of the states in India, Arunachal Pradesh is vividly different in its culture and religion. The people of Arunachal
follow their own religion. Their religion is mostly related to nature. Though almost 30 per cent of the state follow Christianity,
the remaining population are mostly Hindus, Tibetan Buddhists and Theravada Buddhists. These Buddhist communities are
found in the regions of West Kameng, Twang and other places near Tibet. They believe that nature is their ultimate god.
Their belief in oneness in God is unmatchable and truly appreciable.
dance and music play a key role in crafting the culture of Arunachal Pradesh. Every important occasion is incomplete without
their graceful dance and soothing music. You can see various dance forms in different parts of the state.Religious dance
dramas, martial arts and other colourful dance forms will truly captivate your eyes and heart. The highly talented dancers of
Arunachal practice several dances such as festive dances, ritual dances, recreational dances and much more. Some of the

“ Arunachal Pradesh : land of rising sun”
By ABC
When the sun first strikes India, it shines upon Arunachal’s wild jungles and tribal communities. Arunachal, the name
means “land of rising sun”. Arunachal Pradesh is a sprawling mountainous territory, a land of mighty rocks and luxuriant
forests, gentle streams and ragging torrents, presents a breath-taking spectacle of nature in all her glory, raw and unspoilt and
untamed in wild profusion of flora and fauna, customs, language and dress.
It is a land of lush green forests, deep river valleys and beautiful plateaus. The land is mostly mountainous with Himalayan
ranges along the northern borders criss-crossed with mountain ranges running north-south. These divide the state into five rive
valleys: the Kameng, the Subansiri, the Siang, the Lohit and the Tirap. All these rivers are fed by snows from the Himalayas and
countless rivers and rivulets except Tirap which is fed by Patkai Range. The mightiest of these river is Siang, called Tsangpo in
Tibet, which becomes Brahmaputra after it is joined by the Dibang and the Lohit in the plains of Assam.
High mountains and dense forests have prevented intercommunication between tribes living in different river valleys. The
geographical isolation thus imposed has led different tribes to evolve their own dialects and grow with their distinct identities.
Nature has endowed the Arunachal people with a deep sense of beauty which finds delightful expression in their songs, dances
and crafts. The climates varies from hot and humid in the Shivalik range with heavy rainfall. It becomes Progressively Cold as
one moves northwards to higher altitudes.Trees of great size, plentiful climbers and abundance of cane and bamboo make
Arunachal evergreen. Tropical rain forests are to be found in the foothills and hills in the east on the border with Myanmar.
Northern most border is covered with Alpine forests. Amidst the highly rugged terrain, there are green forests and plateaus
