Important Point:-

1. Compass: - The needle of the compass always points towards the


north direction.

2. Scale: - The scale of a map is the radios between the map distance
and the actual distance between two places.

3. Key: - A key is given on a map to help us understand the color


scheme and the symbols used.

4. Physical maps: - Show the physical features of a place such as


mountains, plateaus, plain and river.

5. Political maps: - Countries, states and their capital are shown on it.

6. Climatic maps: - Give general information about climate and rain


fall of a region.

Q.1- How was it proved that the earth is spherical in shape?

A) The Portuguese sailor F-Magellan sailed around the world and


proved that the earth is round. Pictures taken from the space have
also proved that the earth is spherical in shape.

Q.2-How is a globe useful to us?

A) A globe is a model of the earth. It shows distribution of land and


water on the earth. It also shows the shape, size and location of
continents and oceans.

Q.3- How do maps help us? Why is a map less accurate than a globe?

A) Maps provide a lot of information. Maps showing continents,


countries, cities and even neighborhoods can be drawn. map is less
accurate than the globe because the earth is spherical in shape and its
surface is curved So,it is not possibleto an accurate map on a flat
surface.

Q.4-What are the feathers that help us to read a map?

A) The feathers that help us to read map are directions, scale, symbols
and colors.

Q.5-The Earth looks mostly blue when seen from space?

A)The earth looks mostly blue from space because most part of the
earth is covered with water bodies.

1.Sphere : An object that is completely round,such as a ball

2.intermediate directions:The derections in between the major


directions.

3.Symbols: marks which have a particular meaning.
