Activity 1. AS AN ARTIST
Activity 1. AS AN ARTIST
YOU AS AN ARTIST
An artist is anyone who has skills to conceptualize and express themselves through any
medium of art. Their own creativity and their driven-passion for their chosen field of art is what
defines them as an artist. An artist possesses qualities such as dedication, perseverance, patience
and desire to grow to become better in their own crafts. As someone who takes joy in painting
and doing art, I can confidently say that I possess most of the qualities that I mentioned. I believe
that I have the persistence, patience, and passion in creating art. I have the passion that I use to
motivate me to create; and the persistence and patience which allows me to continue and
improve my skills in painting despite the hurdles and difficulties that come along my way.
Activity 2: MY ARTWORK
Direction: Following the important information about arts, create a painting that uses coffee as a
medium. Use Oslo paper as canvas.
1. Process Questions:
A. What is your chosen subject of art? Explain the reason for selecting the subject of your
coffee painting.
An elephant is my chosen subject for my coffee painting. I want to showcase the beauty and
uniqueness of elephants and to create awareness for the unfortunate situation of endangered
elephants in the wild, thus, I chose this as my art subject.
I would classify my art work as a form of visual art since it is a two-dimensional work of fine art
in the category of painting.
I would define art as any product or work done with an aesthetic purpose or meaning. Any
medium can be used in creating or doing art (e.g. coffee, oil, pencil, etc.) as long as the art
expresses a thought or an idea that the artist wants to convey to its audience.
Yes, I would consider it as an artwork since it is a piece that I created with meaning, purpose,
and an aesthetic value that I want to convey to people who view it.
E. Aside from coffee, what other medium can be used in creating your artwork?
Any drawing or painting medium like pencil, charcoal, oil paints, watercolor, gouache, etc., can
be used in creating my artwork.
F. Is this particular artwork present in your community? In your perspective, why is this medium
widely used or not widely used in your community?
Coffee painting is a creative form of art that I personally think is underrated and not widely-used
and present in my community. I think one of the reasons as to why it is rarely used is because of
its complexity and uniqueness. The texture of the coffee is challenging since it is sticky and
therefore hard to control unlike watercolor and gouache paints that are beginner-friendly.
