JT Plants: PC Liquids

Exterran's skid-mounted JT plants provide hydrocarbon dewpoint control and increased natural gas liquid recovery from gas streams between 2 to 40 MMscfd. The preassembled packages are easily installed and reduce water and hydrocarbon dewpoints to meet pipeline specifications. The JT plant uses a gas-to-gas exchanger, optional liquid-to-gas exchanger, JT valve, cold separator, and control system mounted on a single skid. After separation and cooling, gas passes through the exchangers and JT valve where expansion causes significant temperature reduction and hydrocarbon condensation in the cold separator. Recovered natural gas liquids are stored in a separate pressurized tank.

JT Plants

Exterran’s skid-mounted JT plants are easy to

use, integrated packages designed to provide
hydrocarbon dewpoint control and increased
recovery of valuable natural gas liquids (NGL).
These preassembled packages are available in
standard designs for gas streams from 2 to 40
MMscfd. Ideally suited for quick installation
in short-term operating environments, JT
plants reduce the water and hydrocarbon
dewpoint to pipeline specifications and
reduce the BTU content of fuel gas to levels suitable
for high-speed engines.
The JT plant consists of a gas-to-gas exchanger with hot gas bypass, optional liquid-to-gas exchanger, JT
valve, cold separator, methanol injection system and control system, all mounted on a single skid. The
use of standard designs and components sized to match your production allows quick construction and
fast delivery, helping you get your wells online sooner. Exterran engineers size and select JT plants to your
specifications, ensuring the equipment has maximum run time.
The complete JT plants and the individual components have high salvage value and can be easily adapted
for other treating applications. Exterran gas-to-gas exchangers and cold separators are built and stamped
in accordance with ASME code
How it works:
After gas/liquid separation and ambient cooling, high-pressure (1,000 to 1,300 psig) untreated gas enters
the plant through the gas-to-gas exchanger and chiller for pre-cooling. Methanol is injected to prevent
formation of hydrates, and the raw natural gas passes through a JT valve. The resulting pressure drop
causes expansion of the gas and a significant reduction in temperature due to the Joule-Thomson effect.
The cooled gas is routed to the Cold Separator for separation of the condensed NGL. The outlet gas from the
cold separator is routed through the gas-to-gas exchanger for inlet cooling. The NGL from the cold separator
is routed through the inlet chiller and then to a separate pressurized NGL storage tank, where it is flashed to
remove any methane vapor absorbed by the NGL.
