Given A Dilute Aqueous Feed, C C 100, A+2B R+S, C 20. Find X, X, C

The document provides information about a chemical reaction involving reactants A and B to form products R and S. It states that with an initial concentration of A and B of 100 each, and the concentration of A dropping to 20, it aims to find the conversions of A (XA) and B (XB) and the final concentration of B (CB). It shows the calculations that determine XA is 0.8 but finds the corresponding values for XB and CB are impossible.

2. Given a dilute aqueous feed, CA0=CB0=100, A+2B→R+S,CA=20. Find XA,XB,CB.

Dilute aqueous feed, So Ɛa=0

A+2B→R+S

CA0=100, CB0=100, CA=20

CA = CA0(1-XA)

XA=1-(20/100) = 0.8

XBCB0=bCa0XA
CA X
0 A 100
XB= CB =2( 100 )(0.8)=1.6 (impossible)
0

CB = CB0(1-XB)

CB = 100(1-1.6) = -60 (impossible)

8. Gaseous reactant A decomposes as follows:

A→3R

-rA=(0.6min-1)CA

Find the conversion of A in a 50%A-50%inert feed

(v0=180liter/min,CA0=300mmol/liter) to a 1m3 mixed flow reactor.

A→3R -rA=0.6CAmin-1

The feed contains 50%A and 50% inerts

Vo=180L/min

CA0=0.3mol/L

V=1000L = 1m3

Now,
τ m=X A ¿¿

ƐA=2(0.5)=1,

Hence the rate expression can be expanded as,

(1− X A ) (1− X A )
−r A=0.6 C A =0.6 C A
(1+ Ɛ A X A ) (1+ X A )

τ m=X A ¿¿

3XA2+13XA-10=0

−13 ± √169+ 40 ( 3 )
X A= =0.6 7
2 (3 )
