1 A quadrilateral is a 4-sided shape (it is easiest to draw a rectangle)

and considering perimeter means the total distance around the edge.
You can have any of the following:
10cm

1cm 1cm 10 + 10 + 1 + 1 = 22cm

10cm
9cm

2cm 2cm
9 + 9 + 2 + 2 = 22cm
9cm

5cm 5cm
5 + 5 + 6 + 6 = 22cm
6cm 6cm

Any 4-sided shape whose sides total 22cm will be allowed.

2 Remember: the formula for the area of a triangle = base x height

2
So, we could have the following:

4cm
as 5 x 4 = 10cm2
2
Or 5cm

as 10 x 2 = 10cm2
2cm 2

10cm
Any triangle whose base x height = 10cm2

3 The key here is equilateral triangle. It must have 3 equal sides so

there is only one possible solution:

9cm 9cm where perimeter =

9 + 9 + 9 = 27cm

4 A pentagon is a 5-sided shape: This is a regular pentagon where all

the sides are equal. This is the easiest
6cm 6cm

answer as
6cm 6cm 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 = 30cm

6cm

But you could equally have a shape such as:

5cm 5cm

5cm 5cm 10 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 30cm

10cm
Any 5-sided shape whose sides total 30cm would be acceptable.

5 The shape is a
triangular prism
6 It has 2 triangular faces and 3 rectangular faces. 2 + 3 =
5 faces
7 It has 3 edges per triangle face (6 in total) and an edge at the top
and 2 at the bottom of the rectangular faces 9 edges
3+3+1+2=

8 Remember vertices = corners

It has 3 corners for each triangular face, 3+3=
6 vertices

When we ÷ whole numbers by 100, we need to add in a decimal

point at the end of the number and move it 2 places to the left:

10 52 ÷ 100 =
0.52
11 108 ÷ 100 = 1.08
12 3392 ÷ 100 = 33.92
When we multiply by 10, we move the decimal point one point
to the right:

13 0.032 x 10 =
0.32
14 3.75 x 10 =
37.5
15 956 x 10 = (just add a zero because it is a whole number)
9560
16 Hopefully you know the pattern of multiples of 11: The first and
last digit of a 3 digit number will add together to make the number
in the middle if the 3 digit number is a multiple of 11: 11
4+2=6 462 is divisible by 11

23 We need to subtract 39 minutes from 9:03

9:03 9:00 8:30 8:24

- 3 mins - 30 mins - 6 mins

24 Probabilities always add up to 1 (or 100%) 1 – 0.3 =

0.7
25 Unbiased just means a normal coin (e.g. a 2p coin where one side is
a head and the other side is a tail and the probability of it landing
on either side is equal). It is easier if you set out your results in a
table:
1st coin
H T
HH, TT,
2nd Coin

H HH HT HT, TH
T TH TT

So there are four possible outcomes:

26 This is just a 2-way table. Look at where the Leeds

column and Luton row meet: 266 miles
27 Look for the biggest number: 657 miles and look up and across to
see which row and column it is in: Liverpool &
28 Look down the London column to find:
London
Luton 93 miles, Leeds 359 miles and Liverpool 657 miles
Answer in order, furthest to nearest:
Liverpool,
Leeds, Luton
29 The distance from Leeds to Liverpool is 298 miles.
Return means there and back so 298 + 298 = 596 miles

2d + c = 50 subtract the 2nd

d + c = 30 equation from the first.

d = 20 So one door =

38 3 x =5 we need to undo the ÷ by 6,

6 multiply both sides by 6

3x = 30 We do not want 3x, just x, x = 10

divide both sides by 3

39 Combine the ‘like’ terms: f + 2f = 3f

We cannot combine the number 5 or –3g with anything,
so we have: 3f – 3g + 5

40 We need to work through each answer one at a time and make

sure that whatever operation is made, it is made to both sides. see next page

a) 2a = 3c + f + b Compare this to the original: They have

added b to each side. –b + b = 0 so b
has disappeared on the left hand side.
(equivalent)

b) a = b + 3c + f Compare this to the original: They have

2 added b to both sides and then
divided both sides by 2.
2a ( ÷ 2) = a
3c + f + b (÷ 2) = 3c + f + b (equivalent)
2

c) - b = 3c + f – 2a Compare this to the original: They have

subtracted 2a from each side.
Left hand side: 2a – b ( - 2a ) = -b option e) is not
Right hand side: 3c + f ( - 2a ) = 3c + f – 2a
(equivalent) equivalent

d) f = 2a – b – 3c Compare this to the original: They have

subtracted 3c from both sides (they have
swapped the sides around in the answer).
Left hand side: 2a – b ( - 3c ) = 2a – b – 3c
Right hand side: 3c + f ( - 3c ) = f (equivalent)

e) 2a – b + f = 3c Compare this to the original: f should have

been subtracted from both sides but f has been
added to the left hand side. The answer
should have been:
Left hand side: 2a – b ( - f ) = 2a – b – f
Right hand side: 3c + f ( - f ) = 3c

There is + f on the left hand side of the equation instead of – f

41 44 The completed multiplication grid is as follows:

X 8 7
3 24 21
6 48 42

8 x ? = 24 So we have a 3
3 x ? = 21 so we have a 7
7 x ? = 42 So, we have a 6
6x8=? So, we have a 48
