Importance of Work Ethics in Empowering Oneself

It is a known fact that fulfilling talent, knowledge, money, and connection will lead you
to a successful work career. However, everything will be in vain, once you ignore the importance
of work ethics. Research shows that a good work ethic is the number one soft skill sought by
employers. Strong work ethics also is a common skill of many successful leaders. Few of living
and actual proofs of this are the following; Tim Cook, the CEO of the successful Apple
company, is said to be the first one to work at the office and the late one to leave work. Dallas
Mavericks, owner of billionaire company Mark Cuban, is said to have not taken a vacation for
straight seven years when he is starting his business. Carlo Ghosn, the CEO of Nissan and
Renault, is said to works more than 65 hours a week, spend 48 hours a month in the air, and flies
more than 150,000 miles a year. Their earnest working ethic provides great success and power to
them. Guaranteed that work ethics will be guided to success and empowering oneself, but what
are exactly work ethics? How does it benefit the companies? How one develops strong work
ethics? And most importantly, what is the importance of work ethics in empowering oneself?
Work ethics are defined as the principle that hard work is intrinsically virtuous or worthy
of reward. Thus work ethics are often concerned with the value of hard work and diligence, but
an alternative perception of this is to work smart. Learning to work smarter can improve your
productivity and performance while increasing your overall job satisfaction. It can also make you
a valuable asset to the company or organization for which you work.
While on the side of the company, the strong work ethics of employees will also give a
big benefit to the company. Two factors that a company gains from the strong work ethics of
employees are productive work and cooperation. Employees who have a good work ethic usually
have a faster working pace, thus this creates a productive work environment inside the company.
They also know how important is cooperation and teamwork in working to achieve a better
result. Cooperation and effective teamwork can help the company will lead to greater results,
solve conflict matters, make a strong case to management on various policy issues, from learning
and development to workplace culture. And to build effective teamwork skills is to practice the
following skills: Communication, Awareness, Collaboration, Empathy, Honesty, Active
listening, Responsibility, Project organization, Planning decisions, Making meditation,
Persuasion, and Feedback.
Workers who have a strong work ethic does greatly gain benefits, and to build a strong
work ethic of one person means training yourself to follow these certain values and core
elements of strong work ethic: Honesty, Integrity, Impartiality/Fairness, Alertness, Openness,
Respect for others, Reliability & Dependability, Determination, Dedication, Accountability,
Confidentiality, Responsibility, Legality, Competence, Professionalism, Humility, and Initiative.
More descriptive steps are the following: First is to be professional in your work, second is to
properly manage your time, third is to know how to keep balanced and deliver consistently high
performance in your work, and third is to develop good habits, like valuing punctuality and
attendance, cultivate flexibility, positive thinking, and many more.
Working organization are not the only one who benefits from the strong work ethics of
workers, the workers itself significantly benefit on ownself skills. Besides the benefits of work
organization valuing the workers with strong ethics, the workers themselves will most
importantly feel satisfied with their work. Everyone must want to achieve great performance and
career progression in their field of work, so the workers who have a strong work ethic will take
pride in their work. A job well-done fosters within them is a sense of personal satisfaction and
professional fulfillment. Thus we can say that having a strong work ethic will not only expose
you to greater opportunities but will also earn you a reputation of excellence in your profession,
derive greater satisfaction from work because they are fully engaged in what they are doing
every day, and to sum it up, it will empower oneself who has strong work ethics.
