Rhythmic Activities

Rhythmic activities combine physical movement with music or beats for purposes like exercise, self-expression, and demonstrating culture. They include fundamental movements like walking, running, and skipping. Fundamental movement skills involve locomotor skills like walking and running, non-locomotor skills like bending and stretching, and manipulative skills using the hands and feet. The document then provides examples of rhythmic activities like hand clapping and using moira sticks, describing the patterns and steps involved. It discusses elements of movement like space, time, and force or energy.

RHYTHMIC ACTIVITIES

Rhythmic activities are combinations of

physical movements with sounds, beats, or
music. Rhythmic activities rely on an
internal or external rhythm used for self-
expression, exercise, demonstration of
physical ability, socialization, and
expression of culture.
RHYTHMIC FUNDAMENTAL
Fundamental rhythms include walking,
running, skipping, and other fundamental
movements. The general purpose of a
programme of fundamental rhythm is to
provide a variety of
basic movement experiences. This will
make students move effectively, efficiently
and develop a sense of rhythms.
FUNDAMENTAL MOVEMENT
SKILLS
These are the patterns of two or more
body segment. skilllike locomotor, non-
locomotor, and manipulative movements
are included
a.Locomotor movements
b.Non-locomotor movements
c.Manipulative movements
LOCOMOTOR MOVEMENTS
REFERS TO MOVEMENTS DONE TRANFERRING FROM ONE PLACE
TO ANOTHER
 Walk - The walk is a transfer of weight from one foot
to the other.  Usually the heel touches first.
 Run - The run is a transfer of weight from one foot to
the other however, the body is propelled into the air
and suspended between run steps.
 Jump - The jump required the body to push off from
one or both feet. Most common is a two foot take off
and two foot landing.  A jump can take off on one
foot and land on two or take off from two feet and
land one one foot.
Hop - The hop requires a push-off from
one foot and landing on the same foot.
Leap - A leap is performed by pushing off
from one foot and landing on the other foot.
The body is suspended in the and between
the push off and the landing. Can be
combined with a run or walk.
 Skip - A combination of a step and a hop on the same
foot followed by a step and hop on the other foot. The
rhythm is uneven long -short.  Long (the step) and short
(the hop).
 Gallop - A forward movement where one foot leads the
gallop while the other foot follows. The lead foot steps
with a bent knee and pushes off into the air and landing
on the trailing foot. The rhythm is uneven, long -short.
Long (the step) and short (the landing).
 Slide - Is similar to a gallop performed with the right or
left foot leading. The rhythm is uneven, long -short.   Long
(the step) and short (the landing).
NON-LOCOMOTOR
MOVEMENTS
These are movements done only in place. Non-locomotor movements help
to reduce muscle tension and make the body feel more relaxed.

 Flexion – shortening of the body parts occurring

at a joint.
Example : arm bending , head bending , knee
bending and trunk bending
 Extension – straightening of a body part
occurring at a joint.
Example: Leg stretch and arm stretch
 Rotation - A rotation is a transformation that turns a
figure about a fixed point called the center of rotation.
Example: shoulder circling and arm circling
 Pendular – swaying or swinging of a body part
occurring at a joint.
Example: Arm swinging, hip swinging and leg swinging
 Percussive – pushing or pulling striking and hitting an
object .
Example: pushing and pulling the door
striking and hitting the drum
 Vibratory – refers to shaking or vibrating parts of the
body .
Example: Shake hips and shake arms
MANIPULATIVE MOVEMENTS
It refers of using the hands or feet and other parts of the
body of person who can control object.
 Throwring
 Catch
 Kick
 Dribble
 Hit/ strike
 Volleyball
ELEMENTS OF MOVEMENTS
SPACE
 The elements of movement are space, time, and
force (energy). The instrument is the body. The body
moves in space and in time with force. The dance
concepts should be viewed holistically. When
participating in dance, all elements of dance are
integrated all the time. The separation among
concepts here serves as a means to think about, plan,
and discuss dance.
 LEVEL – The movement space can be done in
different levels, such high, low, and medium.
 RANGE – the area covered by the body when moving.
The movement may be wide, large, and small
 FLOOR PATTERN – the design made on the floor
while the body is moving can be circle, square,
straight line or zigzag.
