Scenario

Your customer, Client Y, is scheduled for an upgrade of their sub 1000 seat Snow License Manager 7
installation. You will be tasked with performing the upgrade.

Pre-upgrade Readiness Check

Snow License Manager 8 is a major product release, not only are there new features and
enhancements visible in the user interfaces, there are also some core changes, some of which may
have an Impact on custom integrations, reports, features and functions. There is also functionality
that has been deprecated and therefore no longer supported in Snow License Manager 8.

Examples of deprecated, affected functions/features are:

• Saved Searches
• Custom reports created via interaction with the SnowLicenseManager database.
• The report feature in the Snow Management and Configuration Center (SMACC) has been
removed In SLM 8

Refer to the Snow License Manager 8 Core Changes Overview for further information concerning
these and other changes will be made available as soon as possible.

Any custom/bespoke work carried out in the original Snow License Manager 7 installation, that
requires intervention or work to migrate custom data or restore functionality to Snow License
Manager 8 after an upgrade, will be at additional expense to the customer.

Before the upgrade actually takes place, it is necessary to first carry out a Snow License Manager 8
Readiness Check. This will help to identify any custom/bespoke work that has been previously
carried out and to scope and agree what work will need to be done to bring the functionality into
the Snow License Manager 8 installation post upgrade.

Pre-upgrade
Identify with the customer any environment changes that may have taken place since the original
installation which may impact the successful upgrade process.

Verify that the current server infrastructure continues to meet or exceed the system requirements.

Snow License Manager 8 will install a new Web site as part of the upgrade replacing configuration
changes previously applied to Snow License Manager 7.

Before upgrading, create a backup of the existing web.config file from the Snow License Manager 7
website to retain any configuration changes. Please apply manually the desired changes to the
Snow License Manager 8 web.config file.
