Geometric Sequence: Dona May Daria

This document provides a lesson plan on teaching geometric sequences to a 10th grade class. The lesson plan includes 3 sample problems for students to practice solving real-life problems involving geometric sequences. It also assigns a problem from page 43 number 6 for students to solve in groups and present at the next meeting. The lesson plan aims to teach students how to determine the common ratio and terms of a geometric sequence, and apply these concepts to solve problems tracking bacteria growth, falling distance over time, and tracking numbers of people caught for drug use over days.

Elements of the Plan

A. Preparatory Activity
1. Apperception
Last time, you’ve all studied about geometric
sequence and other types of sequences and were
able to perform different strategies just to generate
the desired sequence.
So as a review, how can we get the common
ratio of a geometric sequence? We can get the common ratio of a geometric
sequence by dividing the term by its preceding term.
Okay! What about the geometric mean? How
can we determine the geometric means between the First, find the common ratio using the general
two terms of a geometric sequence? formula which is an=a1rn-1 and then we will multiply it to
the first term to get the next term.
B. Presentation/Lesson proper
1. Presentation
So, let’s test how much you’ve learned from our
discussion. We will now be dealing with problems
involving geometric sequence. Here’s the first one:

2. Activity
1. A scientist observes bacteria growth and
records data in a table at regular intervals.
Observation 1 2 3 4 5
Bacteria 5 10 20 40 80
How much bacteria will there be when
she makes her 12th observation?
Solution:
Using an=a1rn-1
an=? a12=5(2)12-1
a1=5 a12=5(2)11
n=12 a12=5(2048)
r=2 a12=10,240

Yes, ma’am!

Can you follow?

2. Mr. and Mrs. Tupaz dropped a coin from their
4-storey house. The distance the coin will fall is
1 meter the first second, 4m the next second,
16m the third second and so on until it reached
the ground. What is the total distance the object
will fall in 5 seconds?
Time in 1 2 3 4 5
seconds
Distance(m) 5 10 20 40 80
Solution:

Using an = a1rn-1
a6 = ? a6 = 1(4)5-1
a1 = 1 a6 = 1(4)4
n=5 a6 = 256 m
r=4 Yes, ma’am!

Are the processes clear to you?

3. Evaluation ?

In a 1 whole sheet of paper answer this problem:

/

President Rodrigo Duterte is known for being

“drug-hater”. He mandated the Philippine National
Police (PNP) to stop and catch those drug pushers
and users. After 4 days, they recorded the number of
people they caught from using drugs and it is shown
in the table below.7:

days 1 2 3 4
People caught 1 5 25 125
How many drug users and pushers would the PNP
will caught after 8th day?
Solution:

a8=1(5)8-1
a8= 57
a8=78, 125
4. Assignment
By group, answer the problem on page
43 number 6. This will be presented nect
meeting. Is that clear?
Yes, ma’am!
