AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE MANUAL

WARNING: WHEN YOU MOVE THE IDG, MAKE SURE YOU USE APPROVED SUPPORT
EQUIPMENT. THE IDG WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 72.0 POUNDS (32.7 KG)
AND CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO
EQUIPMENT.

CAUTION: WHEN YOU INSTALL/REMOVE THE GENERATOR, DO NOT LIFT IT BY THE

INPUT SHAFT, OR LET THE SHAFT BE ON A SURFACE. YOU CAN CAUSE
DAMAGE TO THE GENERATOR INPUT SEAL AND/OR THE SHAFT.

(1) Put the IDG (1) on the support cradle and mobile lift.

(2) Clean the IDG (1) with a clean dry cloth.

(3) Apply the lubricant to a new preformed packing (24) and install the packing on the union (6).

(4) Install the union (6) and a new packing (24) in the IDG oil−in port (25).

(5) Torque the union (6) from 30.0 to 33.3 lbf·ft (40.75 to 45.22 N·m).

(6) Apply the lubricant to a new preformed packing (22) and install the packing on the union (5).

(7) Install the union (5) and a new packing (22) in the IDG oil−out port (23).

(8) Torque the union (5) from 22.5 to 25.0 lbf·ft (30.56 to 33.95 N·m).

(9) Apply the lubricant to a new preformed packing (26) and install the packing on the IDG
spline shaft (21).

(10) Apply the lubricant to a new preformed packing (27) and install the packing on the IDG
mounting pad (28).

(11) Put the support cradle and mobile lift in position under the engine.

(12) Remove the cover from the gearbox mounting pad (20).

(13) Set the V−band clamp (19) on the gearbox mounting pad (20).

CAUTION: CAREFULLY LIFT THE CRADLE OF THE SUPPORT FIXTURE INTO

POSITION. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE
EQUIPMENT.

(14) Set the IDG in position behind the gearbox mounting pad (20).

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU CORRECTLY ALIGN THE IDG MOUNTING FLANGE
WITH THE GEARBOX MOUNTING FLANGE. YOU CAN PREVENT
INSTALLATION OF THE V−BAND CLAMP, AND/OR CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE
EQUIPMENT.

(15) Align the mounting hole (30) on the IDG mounting pad (28) with the alignment pin (29) on
the gearbox mounting pad (20).

CAUTION: WHEN YOU INSTALL/REMOVE THE GENERATOR, DO NOT LIFT IT BY THE

INPUT SHAFT, OR LET THE SHAFT BE ON A SURFACE. YOU CAN CAUSE
DAMAGE TO THE GENERATOR INPUT SEAL AND/OR THE SHAFT.

(16) Install the IDG (1) on the gearbox mounting pad (20).

CAUTION: WHEN YOU INSTALL THE V−BAND CLAMP. MAKE SURE THAT IT DOES
NOT CATCH ON OTHER PARTS AND THAT ALL OF ITS PARTS TOUCH THE
MOUNTING FLANGE ON THE GEARBOX AND THE IDG. YOU CAN CAUSE
DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.

(17) Install the V−band clamp (19) around the IDG mounting pad (28) and the gearbox mounting
pad (20).

(18) When the V−band clamp (19) is aligned correctly, install the coupling nut (18).

(19) Make sure that the V−band clamp (19) moves freely around the mounting pad (20).

(20) Tighten and torque the coupling nut (18) from 115 to 125 lbf·in (13.00 to 14.12 N·m).

(21) To prevent incorrect torque values, do the steps that follow until the torque on nut (18) stays
from 115 to 125 lbf·in (13.00 to 14.12 N·m):

(a) Hit the outer edge of the V−band clamp (19) lightly with a plastic hammer.

(b) Torque the coupling nut (18) from 115 to 125 lbf·in (13.00 to 14.12 N·m).

(22) Remove the IDG support cradle and the mobile lift.

(23) Remove the cap from the oil−in line (4).

CAUTION: WHEN YOU REMOVE/TORQUE THE HOSES/TUBES, USE TWO WRENCHES.

USE ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE FITTING AND THE OTHER WRENCH TO
LOOSEN/TORQUE THE COUPLING NUT. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY, YOU CAN
CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE COMPONENTS.

(24) Use two wrenches to install the oil−in line (4) on the oil−in union (6).

(25) Torque the oil−in line (4) from 54.17 to 64.16 lbf·ft (73.44 to 87.00 N·m).

(26) Remove the cap from the right−angle union (36) on the oil−out line (3).

(27) Use two wrenches and install the right−angle union (36) to the oil−out union (5).

(28) Torque the right−angle union (36) from 37.50 to 45.83 lbf·ft (50.84 to 62.14 N·m).

(29) Remove the caps from the electrical connectors (15) and (16).

(30) Connect the electrical connector G1P50 (G2P50) (15) to IDG connector G1J1 (G2J1) (31).
