1) If you roll an unbiased dice 20 times, what is the probability of rolling a “6”
exactly 10 times. [2]

(Answer any 4 of them)

1) In the old days, there was a probability of 0.8 of failures in any attempt to make
a telephone call. (This often depended on the importance of the person making the
call, or the operator's curiosity!)
Calculate the probability of having 7 success in 10 attempts. [5]

2) Suppose a car salesman sells on average 5 cars per week. Calculate the
probability of selling at least 1 car per day. [5]

3) If X ~ N(5,2). Calculate P(-2<X<6) = ?. Draw a figure. [3+2]

4) Suppose we wanted to see that girls scored significantly different than the national
average score on the verbal section of the SAT, and suppose that national average
was 500. To test this 5 girls are selected and their scores are recorded which are
given below:

Now test this at 10% level of significance. [5]

5) A study was conducted to investigate how effective a new diet was in lowering
cholesterol. Results for the randomly selected subjects are shown in the table. The
differences have a normal distribution. Are new diet effective? Test this at 1% level
of significance.
