(N) Other Image Problem

This document discusses the potential and induced charge distribution of a point charge near a grounded conducting sphere. It shows that the system is equivalent to the point charge and its mirror image. The induced surface charge on the sphere is derived. It is then shown that the image charge has the opposite sign and is located at the center of the sphere. Expressions are obtained for the force and work done in bringing the point charge to the sphere.

(n) Other Image Problem
The method just described is not limited to a single point charge; any stationary charge
distribution near a grounded conducting plane can be treated in the same way, by introducing its
mirror image. 
