Intramuscular Injection

Intramuscular injection, or IM injection, involves injecting medications directly into muscles using a needle. It has rapid absorption and onset of action compared to oral or subcutaneous routes. Some advantages are bypassing first-pass metabolism and allowing administration of large drug volumes. However, it requires expertise to administer properly and risks include pain, anxiety, and inadvertent injection into the wrong site. IM injection is used for antibiotics, vaccines, hormones, and other soluble drugs that need rapid absorption during emergencies.

Intramuscular injection
