B. Developing Technology
Instructions:

1. Provide a tangible solution (technology-based solution) to the identified
issues/problems stated on the column 2 of activity A.
2. Provide a rationale about your solution by answering these guide
questions.
o What is your topic all about?
o What are the issues (global, national and local aspects) you
encountered on your topic?
o How did other institutions solve that issues or what are
existing innovative technologies that provide solution to your
presented issues? What are the effects of these solutions?
Note: Please highlight the negative effects of the existing
innovative technologies.
o What is your proposed technology and why your proposed
technology can be considered a solution? What issues can be
solved by your technology? How can your technology
compete with the existing technology?
3. Develop a plan following the stages in technology development.
4. The template is provided for your reference.
1.
Our motion sensor-based trash can is convenient for all user
especially in hospitals and households. it open and close
automatically to avoid direct contact with bacteria, germs and
acquire viruses that can potentially contribute to the spread of
covid-19. It also comes with refillable spray container for
disinfectant product that the authorize personnel desired to use.
the trash bin is made out of stainless steel.
2. Rationale
in the current situation we encounter right now, covid-19 is one of the most crucial event in the
history . This technology based trash can help to disinfect and dispose properly the face mask
use.
Local:
Solid waste has become an increasing environmental problem due to the rapid rise of
population, especially in highly urbanized areas like Davao City, Philippines. As part of the
3|Page
city’s urban center, Angliongto, which is within the 50-kilometer radius from the downtown
area, faces a huge challenge in relation to littering and illegal garbage dumping. The
dimensions of illegal garbage dumping in Angliongto which include forms of illegal garbage
dumping, ineffective waste management practices, resources and equipment, resident’s
practices and behaviour, policies and procedures, environment, and enforcers’ practices and
capabilities (Francisco, et. al., 2018).
National:
Solid waste is a problem that keeps on increasing as the population of a country grows. Proper
waste management is one solution which would help maintain our green environment. Since
production increases the consumption in urban areas has also increased in the quantity of
wastes generated. The innovative solution presented for the issue is an ultrasonic sensor to
measure the volume of the bins, the load cell to measure the weight of the bin, and an Arduino
Uno which controls the system operation. As soon as it reaches a certain point the Arduino will
send a notification to the person in charge, so that the waste can be collected immediately
(Aguila, et. al., 2019)
Global:
The waste management landscape in 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)
Member States. This report begins with the statistics on the trends of population growth,
urbanization, and economic growth in each of the ASEAN countries, which is then followed by
an overview of the waste generation, collection, treatment & recovery, and disposal statistics,
and associated environmental, technical, and governance (institutions, policy, regulations)
factors in the waste sector (Jain, et, al, 2017). Eventually, the problem of litter gets out of
control. What starts with a few pieces of litter can snowball into a gigantic mess. It is important
to do everything you can to encourage individuals to properly dispose of their trash (C.W.,
2014).
Employ Colourful Trash Cans Colourful trash cans are easy to find and source, and they stand
out, drawing the eye’s attention. Sometimes, people litter simply because they don’t see a trash
can, so by purposely using eye-catching trash cans, you can help ensure your tenants will see
and use them.
Proposed Technology:
The researchers come up an ecological technology base to provide solution in the waste
management issue. This proposed technology aims to help not just the environment but also the
4|Page
persons with disabilities (PWD), the researchers come up with a design that can bring
convenience to people for throwing their garbage during special time.
This brilliant design it consists a motion sensor that can detect human motion specifically when
throwing a garbage it will automatically open whenever a user throws something to the
proposed technology and at the same time it also closes automatically as soon as the proposed
technology’s motion sensor is not been detected, it is a rechargeable battery operated with a
back up solar panel so when the main battery is down it can still function due to the reserve
energy that the solar panel have, it also have one of a kind features that have garbage bag
holder, to be oddly specific it looks like one to the toilet paper tissue holder but instead of a
tissue paper the researchers replaced it with a garbage bag for easy accessible replacing the
trashcan’s garbage bag, it is located to the side of the motion sensor trash can, and another sate
of the cleaning features of this motion sensor trashcan it has a self-sanitation that is functional
after the user take out the garbage, the user must simply push the button located at the other
side of the trashcan and the sanitation process is on the move it is also refillable.
Our technology can compete with the existing ones as these are built and made to have the
major features of garbage bin products that they offer individually and are improved with our
new technology.

problems.
Research to Prove Smart trash bin market size was valued at USD 7.4
Feasibility million in 2017 and is expected to grow at a compound
annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.9% from 2018 to 2025.
The smart trash bins considered under the scope of the
study refers to the automatic garbage bins. These
touchless trash bins are sensor-based and are capable
of operating without making any physical contact. The
market formulated estimates of the market sizing &
forecasts for the automatically operated touchless
garbage/trash/waste bins. Surging demand for efficient
waste disposal and smart waste management is one of
the key trends stimulating the growth of the smart trash
bins market. With public welfare organizations, local
government bodies, and other concerned regulatory
boards are increasingly undertaking initiatives to ensure
cleaner surroundings in urban areas, manufacturers of
touchless garbage bins are escalating their efforts to
boost the adoption of their offerings.

hygienic and healthy surrounding. The popularity of
automatic trash cans is increasing in the residential
sector, as households are gradually changing and
modernizing their lifestyle. The demand for automatic
trash bins from the residential sector is anticipated to
rise significantly over the coming years owing to growing
awareness regarding the convenience offered by the
product. Ease of operation offered coupled with
increasing awareness about maintaining hygienic
surroundings by avoiding cross-contamination of germs
is expected to stir up the demand for smart garbage
cans.
Demonstration expand. First, the user has to be near in the trash can
to make use of the motion-sensor feature, so it will
automatically open the lid of the trash can and stay
away for about a meter to close the lid. Second, it is
usable for the garbage collector, when they want to use
the spray anti-bacterial feature the user has to push the
button after removing the garbage. Third, if the user
7|Page
uses the trash can indoor, the user can use the
chargeable battery feature and if outdoor, the user can
use the solar panel feature. The both energy provider
features can be a support to each other depends on the
situation. Lastly, the garbage bag holder can be used to
hold the refillable garbage bag.
