national hero's older brother. He served as Rizal's guardian while the latter
was studying in Spain. Paciano was a huge influence to Rizal's life. He would constantly send
money to Spain and update his younger brother of the friars' abuses in the Philippines through
letters. Paciano took all the responsibilities of Pepe so that his younger brother may devote his
time for the motherland’s cause. Probably, without Paciano, there could also be no Jose Rizal.
Probably when Paciano was still alive, in a period of great solitude he uttered the words, “It’s
not easy to be me.” There is a need to recognize the sacrifices of Pacino for the country
because Paciano helps a lot in Rizal he serves as guardian of Rizal while he’s studying in
Spain.
He served as a lighthouse to Pepe during tough and rough times and financially supported his
brother’s fight for the country. Paciano took all the responsibilities of Pepe so that his younger
brother may devote his time for the motherland’s cause without Paciano there could be no Jose
Rizal our National Hero. The Sacrifices of Paciano are when he enrolled the young Jose in
Ateneo his using the Surname Rizal because Paciano Made Mercado suspicious through his
association of Jose Burgos. Paciano Wake Jose Rizal on 1 st May 1882 and gave him the money
amounting P356.00 to be able to raise a Trip. Without Paciano to back him up, its doubtful that
Rizal would have got as far as he reached. Rizal was timid, Paciano was venturesome. Paciano
supplied what the young Rizal lack like self-esteem, self-confidence which Paciano had in
abundance and so many helps that Paciano made on Rizal to become.
Rizal dedicated the new book to the three priests, Gomez, Burgos and Zamora, who were
executed because of their supposed participation in the first revolutionary campaign of modern
Philippine nationalism, the mutiny of Cavite. The trial of the three priests was nothing more
than a contrived show, like the trial of Rizal later. In accordance with the method, tested and
tried, prominent leaders were removed by making them responsible for actions which they not
only did not commit but to which they have always objected. Rizal derives the reason to
dedicate the work to them from the fact that the Church did not excommunicate the three
priests and that there were serious mistakes in the surreptitious trial which irresponsibly led to
his death sentence, and as victims of such circumstances, to the opposition which involved his
lifetime work.
Paciano deserve an equal recognition to because he helps our National hero Jose a lot
successfully served as Jose's guardian and hero. He was the second of eleven children in the
family of Don Francisco Mercado and Doña Teodora Alonso, of which Jose was the youngest.
