ISACA - Cybersecurity-Fundamentals-Certificate-Fact-Sheet - 0420
Cybersecurity skills are in high demand, as threats continue to plague enterprises around the
world. Around the world, 62 percent of cyber pros say their teams are understaffed, and 57
percent have unfilled cybersecurity positions, according to ISACA’s 2020 State of Cybersecurity
research. Additionally, 33 percent say that that fewer than one-quarter of job candidates are
qualified for the cybersecurity position for which they applied.
The persistent threat of cyberattacks – and their associated costs – are not likely to decrease.
According to a 2019 study by Accenture and the Ponemon Institute LLC on the cost of
cybercrime, security breaches increased significantly over the last five years, by 67 percent, and
companies spent an average of US$13.0 million on cybercrime in 2018, a 12 percent increase
from the previous year.
To fill this gap, ISACA developed the Cybersecurity Fundamentals Certificate, a knowledge-
based certificate, to provide education and verification of skills in this increasingly important
arena.
The certificate is particularly relevant for recent college/university graduates and those looking
for a career change to cybersecurity. The certificate is aligned with the National Institute of
Standards and Technology (NIST) National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE), which
is compatible with global cybersecurity issues, activities and job roles. The certificate also is
aligned with the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA).
Through CSX, ISACA commits to doing for cybersecurity professionals what it has done, and
will continue to do, for IT audit, control and governance professionals for 50 years.
Visit the CSX webpage and access a program overview, career roadmap tool, career pathways
training, whitepapers and research, as well as labs and courses.
