Architectural Design: Site Analysis

The document analyzes a site for a proposed architectural project in Duhok, Iraq. It examines the location, dimensions, topography, surrounding streets and buildings, environmental factors, soil capacity, and current land use of the site. The analysis concludes that the site is suitable but will require an expensive foundation due to weak soil, and that the main road is not wide enough to accommodate both entry and exit for the project.

Introduction
Site analysis An architectural site analysis will look at issues such as site location,
size, topography, zoning, traffic conditions and climate. The analysis also needs to
,consider any future developments, or changes to the sites surroundings.
-Shape & dimensions

- The shape of the

site is nearly square

-It has a length of

nearly (250m)

-And the width is

nearly (245m)
Area: 61250 m2
Site topography

• The Site topography has

a slight slope therefore
is considered having
almost one level.
• The site is lower than
the main street.

Site streets
The site is surrounded by zirka
main street in the west side of
the land, and a secondary street
in the north side.

The main street with two sides

is (40m) wide each (12m) wide
The secondary street is
(25m) wide.

The secondary street opposite

the land reaches the university
gate.

Site streets
- We conclude that the disadvantage
of the main road is that it is not wide
enough to present both the entry and
the exit to the mall that we create.

- So we can make a secondary street in

the south so it can be the entry to the
parking, and the north one will be the
exit. This is when we want to avoid
the crowd in the main street.

- Also we can add a secondary road in

the back of the mall for the service
and it will be just for the load cars.

Site surrounding

• Site analysis is very important

before we initiate our
construction. Detailed study
and its surrounding will help
justify our design proposal.
And the study of the site and
surrounding of the site helps
us to designing the project
efficiently.
Site surrounding
As we can see this site and its surrounding we
can analyze it.
The east side is (malta) which is a residential
area.
And the west are commercial buildings,
residential buildings, and the Duhok university
campus.
The north side of the site are residential buildings
and commercial buildings.
The south side of the site is an agricultural area.

Environmental Factors
Soil Capacity
.

.
The site is an agricultural area cannot
bear more than 6-7 floors for higher
buildings the foundation should be
stronger. for that we need to use
deep foundation or another way we
can divide the land to parts and make
a foundation for each part and
connect them together with joints.
Context of the land .

• The agricultural lands are not stable as

far as the context of the land concerns
because the amount of soil and water
in the land which make it unstable and
they have negative effects on
excavation work . more over , due to
the increase in the excavation work
and foundation the cast rises as well.
Planting
The site is used for agriculture , containing glass houses
CONCLUSION

1. The site is close to residential buildings (the northern side is a residential area) for
that the mall shouldn’t be too high.
2. The site is close to university of Duhok.
3 .Entrance for big trucks could be located at the back of the land or in the east.
4. Southern side is an open area, which makes it easier to be seen from the southern
side.
5. Hotels are placed at the western side that a lot of tourists visit during the year.
6. The land need an expensive foundation because it is weak soil, this is more cost.
7. the main road is not wide enough to allow both entry and exit
