Good morning, Sir.
I do believe that the smile on your faces
means you are all fine, am I right?

B. Motivation
Yes, sir.
Because of your beautiful smiles, let us
play the game for I know you love doing
this stuff.

The name of the game is HELLO LOVE

GOODBYE CHALLENGE.

The mechanics of the challenge is that I

am going to flash some of the pictures and
you will just simply tell HELLO, LOVE
or GOODBYE by just raising your right
hand.

Is it clear class?
Yes sir.

II. Developmental Activities

a. Presentation of the Lesson

How did you find the activity?

(Students’ answers are vary)
Well, the challenge we have done has
something to do with our lesson for today
which “LUCKY PLAZA” by Dinah Rona.

Who among you knows Dinah Rona?

None sir.
Dinah Roma was born in Samar,
Philippines, an island known for its bluest
waters and unforgiving typhoons. She
grew up in Manila and went to De La
Salle University for a double degree in
Literature and Marketing Management.
She spent 5 years in Japan to study its
language and earn her Master of Arts in
Comparative Culture. In Manila, she
teaches at De La Salle University’s
Department of Literature, where she is
completing doctoral studies in literature.
Her poetry and dancing redeem her.

b. Unlocking of Difficulties

Before going through the content of our

topic today, let us familiarize some of the
word that can be found in the poem by
matching these words into its defined
meaning.
1. Leisure
2. Acquiescence Rest
3. Tensile obedience
4. Cage stretched
5. Indifference fence
disregard
c. Reading Phase

Now that we are aware and familiar to the

words that are found in the poem, let us
read the line through popcorn reading. (The Student/s will read the poem)
Lucky Plaza
Dinah Rona

And I remember her through the day’s

leisure.
My veiled urgency to leave the spot
Where we founded each other. Wanting her
to end
The telling of stories whose origins I know
so much
And wouldn’t want to recall. To reach for
her
From my table’s end and touch her hand
trained
In the acquiescence of service. To let her
know
She could leave the bowl, its cool
indifference
Behind. Simply, to let her know stories
Revive and inspire. That I do have my
own.
They come from where she’s from
The same fractures of a people beyond
Breaking. The same faith past years
Of despair. That light unwilling to
surrender
To the remaining hours of the day. The
slow
Return to night. For that is all we have
She to the house polished to her children’s
Absence, strangers in the company of kins.
And me to the books I judge the world by.
Wiser by the hours as the tensile lines
Singing of beauty cage her pain
Within places of imaginary.
d. Discussion/Comprehension Check Up

What is the title of the poem again?

Lucky Plaza sir.
Do you know why Lucky Plaza is the title
of poem?
Lucky Plaza is the title of the poem
because it dramatizes a common scene of
Very well said! migrant Filipino workers usually meets on
weekends.

Actually, it is like a mall in Singapore. It

has been providing for space for Filipinos
to touch base with their friends, not only
because of its offerings of Filipino food
and products but also because of its
eventual transformation into a heartfelt for
Filipino to recover their sense of
community.

Now since that Lucky Plaza is the place of

the Filipino workers to unite and gather
one another despite that they are far from
their home.

Let us synthesize or explain the content of

the poem by grouping you into four
groups. Then each group will discuss the
assigned lines based on what they have
understood in the poem. After explaining,
one representative should represent their
understanding. You will be given only for
20 minutes to brainstorm and form your
own insight.

Group 1: First to Seventh Lines

Group 2: Eighth lines to thirteenth lines
Group 3: Fourteenth lines to Eighteenth
lines
Group 4: Nineteenth to Twenty Second
lines

Is that clear class?

Yes sir.
Finish class?

Shall we have the representative of group

1 to present their opinion on their assigned
lines?
The speaker seems to know the stories of
struggles, loneliness even the happiness
and success of the migrant Filipino
workers who always go on the Lucky
Plaza. The speaker saw the Plaza as like a
house that are open to everyone to come
Absolutely! stay and visit.

It is indeed a way for the Filipino workers

to reconnect themselves as one family in
the place where they find happiness
despite they have been through, and away
to their families.
Let us welcome then our presenter of
Group 2?
In these lines, it simply tells and describes
that every migrant worker in Singapore is
striving on what they want, they are
working for their own reasons especially to
their families and provide all their needs
despite the fact that this is very hard. All of
them has their own stories to tell and
Precisely! wanted also to be refreshed again even
though it is breaking for them.

I agree. Migrant Filipino workers are

sacrificing themselves because they
wanted to provide all their families and of
course to live abundantly as well. They
are indeed our inspiration.

Show what you have got to present your

opinion, Group 3?

The migrant workers are patient in all

aspects in life, the way how they feel and
how they work. They have also a big heart
that can handle every situation for the sake
of their loved ones, whether it is good or
bad. That they sacrificed their duties and
responsibilities in their own families and
How painful it is. take other duties to other family by
working for it.
Splendid answer!

Let us take the chance to present their

opinion, group 4?
These lines simply tell that each one of
them has reason why they are going to
Plaza where they find reason to ease their
tired body and soul but they have also
reasons why they go in Singapore. One
thing more, they seem so happy but deep
Fabulous answer. inside their heart is crying because of
loneliness.
It indeed a true story behind their smiles
and happiness when they go to Plaza just
to ease their pain, tirelessly work and
loneliness.
Is it clear class?
Yes sir.
Upon understanding of the poem, what do
you think then is the message of the poem
to us?
The poem encourages us that no matter
how hard is the life in abroad, we must
time for leisure to ease our loneliness and
Very good! sadness.

What else?
The poem teaches us to belong ourselves
even if we are not. We should have the
sense of community living as we are still
Wow! Splendid answer. living in an ordinary life in an
extraordinary place.

Find happiness in your own and always
keep in mind that life is short, so live with
full of leisure time.
