Upper Room systems operate continuously in indoor occupied areas, and are safe
for occupied-area use. They are a relatively simple and effective means of controlling airborne
infection and can be cost-effective for many types of facilities, including offices, cabins, corridors,
industrial plants, canteens, hospital applications, waiting rooms, and any indoor occupied area
• Safe for active use in occupied areas – Occupants in the room are not exposed to UVC radiation
• Proven Technology – Used globally against viruses and bacteria for over 70 years (widely used in North America)
• Upper-Air UVGI systems are recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) to reduce pathogen
transmission to persons in settings with a high risk of transmission

BINAY
LED Aviation Obstruction
LIGHTS
All BINAY Aviation Lights are based on Non-switching passive type circuitry (NO SMPS)
The circuitry incorporated inside the LED Aviation Obstruction Lights is passive electronic (solid-state) in nature, and does not use internal SMPS
driver switching units to control the light unit. Internal LED current control is by non-switching electronic means only. No electrolytic capacitors
are used inside the Aviation Obstruction Light unit.
The above is necessary to ensure reliability of the LED Aviation Obstruction Light. This system design effectively eliminates any active components
and circuits inside the aviation light itself, and enhances the solid-state passive reliability of the LEDs (mounted in relatively inaccessible locations
at the height of tall structures). This drastically reduces the possibility of component failure - and hence possibility of any maintenance require-
ment – in the LED Aviation Obstruction Lights themselves (which are mounted at extreme heights in the system).

Wi-Fi signals to power small electronics
There has been an increase in the number of Wi-Fi sources that
transmit information wirelessly between devices, resulting in
the widespread use of the 2.4GHz radio frequency that Wi-Fi
uses, with excess signals available to be tapped for alternative
uses. To harness this under-utilised source of energy, a research
team from the National University of Singapore and Japan’s
Tohoku University has developed a technology that uses tiny
smart devices known as spin-torque oscillators (STOs) to
harvest and convert wireless radio frequencies into energy to
power small electronics. The research team came up with an
array in which eight STOs are connected in series. Using this
array, the 2.4GHz radio waves were converted into a direct volt-
age signal, which was then transmitted to a capacitor to light
up a 1.6-volt LED. When the capacitor was charged for five
seconds, it was able to light up the same LED for one minute
after the wireless power was switched off.

Conclusion
Overall, the most efficient and innovative open source design among the above-mentioned is Bharat O2. It eliminates
sixteen mechanical and six electrical points and thus reduces chance of failure. Also, the custom-built valve helps reduce
the cost of the project.
If we need a high flow rate with good oxygen concentration level, then OxiKit and MARUT may be preferred as these
are able to deliver a good flow rate—ten litres per minute in case of Marut and twenty-four litres per minute in case of
OxiKit—without compromising the oxygen concentration level.
Pocket PCR
As we know, the PCR test is one of the reliable solutions for covid
detection. This Pocket PCR is an open source testing device that is
small and affordable but powerful like a full-fledged thermocycler
with large laboratory machine-like features. Even in this small size,
the device features PID temperature control with great accuracy. It has
5×0.2ml PCR tubes while its overall size is 33mm×105mm×50mm
and weighs just 50 grams. It can be powered with any 2A power adap-
tor or computer port.

OpenPCR
OpenPCR is a small and affordable PCR machine that features an adjustable-
height heated lid. This enables heating of the top of the tube up to 120 degrees
Celsius, preventing any substantial condensation. It includes an intelligent GUI
based control system that helps the device to run using any C (connected via
USB). The GUI helps to program the PCR protocol. OpenPCR allows flexibility of
disconnecting after being programmed. The machine will, however, continue to
carry out the reaction while an LCD shows its live status with estimated remain-

UV Robot
This UV robot sanitises large areas such as hospitals, offices,
halls, and hotel rooms without creating any risk of exposure
to dangerous UVC light. Unlike other UVC robots, this device
gives wireless access to its GUI with a real-time video feed

unable to do much except introducing
some laws and conducting regular
surveys. But conducting a survey is
not an easy task, especially without
the help of technology.
The smart camera in this project
uses Python code that has pre-
trained TensorFlow models for forest
monitoring and survey. The models
help us in matching and mapping
the image in frame with the model’s
trained data and thus in identifying
those animals.

totype is shown in Fig. 1. The author’s
prototype that uses a Raspberry Pi (or
RPi) with a camera module is shown
in Fig. 2.
The Raspberry Pi captures a video
image using the camera, then using
the OpenCV module it cuts the video
into frames. Next, using OpenCV and
other modules, it processes the image
of detected species and maps it with
a category and pre-trained detection
model. If the detected animal species
is not there in the category list, it
gives the output as ‘none’ and saves
that image with data and timestamp
in database folder so that it can be
studied later. Fig. 2: Author’s prototype
If the detected animal species
matches with any of the animals
listed in new.pbtxt database, it identi-
fies the name of the animal and saves
it in text file forestdb.txt with time and
date. It also saves the image of that
animal with a time stamp in another
folder for future reference.
In this way the smart camera
keeps track and creates a database
with pictures of animals present in
a forest. It can also help in studying
animal behaviour and the presence
and growth of flora and fauna in the
forest. Fig. 3: Object_detection folder
