Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

Comprehensive articulation of the problem in connection to the topic

(could be presented in global, national, and local contexts). Present the

importance of the study, research gap, and urgency of the study in local

context (2-3 pages).

Review of the Related Literature

Related readings that are significant to the study should be presented

here. Start with an introductory paragraph. The central problem is

presented in the first paragraph. The contents may be subdivided with

reference to the main topic.

All sources should be written. Every paragraph contains author(s). In

citing authors, follow APA 7th Edition In-Text Citation, Parenthetical APA

Citation.

Purpose of the Study

Clearly defines the direction, reason or goals for the research study.

Discuss the contribution of your study. You may use the Purpose Statement

of Creswell (2-3 paragraphs).

Research Questions

Introduce the main research question of the study. Specific Questions

are written in interrogative form (numbered). Experiences coping

mechanisms/ strategies, and insights may be included.

Theoretical Lens

Identify a theory or proposition which support your research, showing

that your work is grounded in established ideas. No restrictions on the date

of publication. Add two or more theories/ propositions that would support

the essay. Working theory only during the proposal defense, but during final

defense every major theme generated should have a supporting theory

Significance of the Study

Present the social value of the study. Support with author (2017 up).

Benefits of each beneficiary from the study should be clearly stated.

Consistent: All persons or all organizations (in order: highest to lowest in

rank)

Scope and Delimitation

Should contain the limits of the study (4W’s, 1h). Limitation covers

possible weaknesses of the study

Definition of Terms

The keywords in the title are defined operationally. Definition is based

on its usage in the study. You may include important terms aside from the

keywords in the title. You may also cite sources.

Organization of the Study

Discussion on the contents of all chapters.

Chapter 2

METHODS

Write and introductory paragraph introducing the content of the

entire chapter.

RESEARCH DESIGN

Discussion on the design utilized. Justification for its appropriateness

Support with author, 2017 up.

ROLE OF THE RESEARCHER

Discussion on the significant roles of the researcher/s and its

contribution to the study. Example: Interviewer, Transcriber, Translator, etc.

RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS

Discussion on the locale of the study. State only the division/

municipality/ province where the study is conducted.

Discussion on the sampling technique

Justification the use of sampling technique. Support with author/s,

2017 up. Include the process of selecting the participants. Include pre-

inclusion criteria. Discussion of anonymity, include the pseudonyms.

Data Collection

First Paragraph, discussion on the research instrument/s used in the

conduct of the study. Discuss data collection in qualitative research with

supporting author/s (2017 up). On the second paragraph, discuss what is

IDI with supporting author/s (2017 up). Write the process of collecting data

through IDI on the third paragraph. Next paragraph should contain the

discussion on what is FGD with supporting author/s. Another paragraph for

the process of collecting data through FGD. Other steps conducted may be

added. Discussion on triangulation is optional.

Data Analysis

Discuss content and thematic analysis (support with author/s, 2017

up) or discuss the appropriate analysis utilized. 1st – 2nd paragraphs, discuss

content and thematic analysis. On the 3rd to 4th paragraph, discuss the

process of doing it.

Trustworthiness

The first paragraph should contain the opening paragraph on

trustworthiness in qualitative research. Discuss credibility (1 paragraph),

transferability (1 paragraph), dependability (1 paragraph) and confirmability

(1 paragraph). Each discussion should have supporting author/s (2017 up).

Ethical Considerations

The first paragraph should contain the importance of observing ethics

in qualitative research. On the next paragraphs, discussion on the rights of

the research participants, voluntary participation, confidentiality,

recruitment, consent, respect for persons, benefits, permission from the

research locale, justice, plagiarism, among others should be seen with

supporting author/s.

Chapter 3

RESULTS

Write an opening paragraph introducing the content of the entire

chapter, include the research questions.

Profile of the Participants

Use a side label for IDI. Discuss the data of the IDI research

participants, and provide a table with the pre-inclusion criteria. Use a side

label for FGD and discuss the data of the FGD research participants, and

provide a table with the pre-inclusion criteria.

Categorization of Data

Discuss how the data is categorized.

Themes of Research Question No. 1/ Experiences

Include an opening paragraph introducing the themes for the

experiences and a side label for each theme. Comprehensive discussion of

the experiences. Include the responses of the research participants (IDI or

FGD) (5 or more responses). Present the verbatim responses followed by the

English translation. Include the ID of the research participant. Include a

closing paragraph for the experiences, table on the themes and core ideas on

experiences.

Themes of Research Question No. 2/ Coping Mechanisms

Include an opening paragraph introducing the themes for the coping

mechanism and a side label for each theme. Comprehensive discussion of

the coping mechanism. Include the responses of the research participants

(IDI or FGD) (5 or more responses). Present the verbatim responses followed

by the English translation. Include the ID of the research participant.

Include a closing paragraph for the coping mechanism, table on the themes

and core ideas on coping mechanism.

Themes of Research Question No. 3/ Insights

Include an opening paragraph introducing the themes for the insights

and a side label for each theme. Comprehensive discussion of the insights.

Include the responses of the research participants (IDI or FGD) (5 or more

responses). Present the verbatim responses followed by the English

translation. Include the ID of the research participant. Include a closing

paragraph for the insights, table on the themes and core ideas on insights.

Chapter 4

DISCUSSION

Write an opening paragraph introducing the content of the entire

chapter. Use a side label for each RQ.

Include an opening paragraph for all the themes in the experiences.

For each theme, include a substantial discussion of the result. Support the

result with the findings of other studies. Minimum of 3 paragraphs for each

theme. Each paragraph shall contain at least 1 author (2017 up).

Include an opening paragraph for all the themes in the coping

mechanisms. For each theme, include a substantial discussion of the result.

Support the result with the findings of other studies. Minimum of 3

paragraphs for each theme. Each paragraph shall contain at least 1 author

(2017 up).

Include an opening paragraph for all the themes in the insights. For

each theme, include a substantial discussion of the result. Support the

result with the findings of other studies. Minimum of 3 paragraphs for each

theme. Each paragraph shall contain at least 1 author (2017 up).

Discuss whether the theory supports the results of the study or not.

Preferably, the cited works in the discussion will be taken from the RRL.

Implications for Practice

Start with a paragraph summarizing the discussion. Discuss

comprehensively and specifically the implications of the results in relation to

your practice. If there are 3 RQ’s, there shall be 3 paragraphs under this

section.

Implications for Further Research

Discuss the implications in relation to future research. Implications

are based on the results of the study. If there are 3 RQ’s, there shall be 3

paragraphs under this section.

Concluding Remarks

This includes the author’s impression. This does not summarize the

results of the study.
