Sketch and Tell

In my classroom, there is the same number of armchairs in each row and the rows are
straight.
My teacher told me that my armchair is third from the front and fifth from the back.
It has three armchairs to its left and five armchairs to its right.
Sketch the exact location of my armchair and give the total number of armchairs in
the classroom.

What is a relation? Relation is a set of ordered pairs

What is a function? Function is a special type of relation

which every element in the domain
is mapped to exactly one element in
the range
Among the four types of one to one and many to one
correspondence, which ones ..because there is no repetition on
are functions? Why? the values of the domain..

A relation is a set of ordered pairs governed by a certain rule.

A function is a special type of relation. It is a representation of real world relationships, a relation
between the changes in two quantities according to certain conditions. It is a relation in which every element
in the domain is mapped exactly one element in the range. Thus..
 … a set of ordered pairs is a function if no two distinct ordered pairs have equal abscissas.
 … a table of values is a function if there is no repetition in x – values
 … a graph is a function if a vertical line drawn intersects the graph with outmost one point.
 … an equation is a function if the exponent of y, dependent variable, is 1
 … in a mapping diagram only one to one correspondence and many to one
correspondence are considered function
