Iya Dominguez

So I would first start discussing one of the most pivotal aspects of a learner centered classroom which is
the seating arrangement.

So In our version of a classroom, we would like to shy away from the traditional seating arrangement
that was utilized in prior pedagogical approaches. Wherein those seating arrangements, particularly the
rows and columns seating arrangement, that particular seating arrangement somehow radiate a toxic
enculturated notion within teacher centered classrooms. I don’t know whether you’ve heard of this
story but, during those times, when the teacher centered approach was still prevalent, the rows and
column style was still in play, and usually the students who belongs in the front row is expected to be
the ones who really excel in class, while to those who are residing at the back, they are expected to be a
group of naughty and stubborn students. And with these kinds of remarks, learning will not take place,
because with these unhealthy remarks alone can trigger students to feel inferior and be not motivated
for further learning. And that we believe is not the aim of the learner centered approach. The seating
arrangement that we’ve utilized is the double u seating arrangement, this may be out of the ordinary,
but it is strategically arranged to eradicate all of the unhealthy notions that may hinder learning. So,
with this seating arrangement, teachers could use U shaped pathway to monitor and reach out to
his/her students. This will pave the way for proper disciplining of students while at the same time make
the feel that teachers are more accessible. This particular seating arrangement genuinely promotes
borderless learning.

The same thing with bulletin boards, traditionally bulletin boards are foreseen as these cork made
boards that are very boring and basically uninteresting to look at. But in our version, since of the aims of
the learner centered approach is to make learning more creative, interactive, and personal. We decided
to make our version of the bulletin board to be more interactive for the students. Our bulletin board
occupies almost the whole area of the wall at the back of our classroom. Our board is divided into two
sections, wherein the first half is made out of the usual cork material, but in our version a tarpaulin of
the section would be on top of it, and in that tarpaulin students will be able to post and even organize
the papers or any documents that they will put in that section of the bulletin board, and the other half
of the board has a big drawing of a blank calendar, in this section of the board, students will be tasked
to be the ones to organize their own schedule, and mark the important dates to remember.

Now moving on the whats happening in front of our classroom. The board that we decided to use is the
whiteboard for the sole purpose of making it health friendly, because the traditional blackboard requires
the use of a chalk, and chalk usually have this dust like particles that can certainly trigger allergies,
asthma and other health concerning situations. A platform is also utilized in our classroom so that the
teachers and other presenters would be seen and be interactive with its audience.

Moving on to the teachers table it is located in front of the classroom for regulative authority to take
place and to make sure that discipline and respect is still taking place despite borderless interactions. A
podium also resides beside the platform. Students can utilize this for presentations or any activities that
they will be required to speak in front.

We also decided that the classroom would utilize projectors, for practicality purposes, because we
initially thought of using a TV, but we got reminded that usually high school students are very
hyperactive and this may lead to unwanted destruction of facilities including the TVs, which we all know
is very expensive. Well projectors still have a wide range of functions such as presenting PowerPoint
presentations and even present video presentations, that visual learners can surely capitalize on.

 We should always be prepared for learning.

o Since we aim for learning to become more personal for the students, this
particular rule embodies that particular ideology. The “we” word establishes a
sense of belonging for the students, wherein they would able to realize that they
are not only the ones who carry the burden of doing a lot of requirements and
reading a lot of materials. But instead with the incorporation of the word “we” it
signifies that learning would not take place if one effort is missing, it is a
collective effort from the students and the teachers. With this rule students would
come into the full realization that their efforts of preparing for the class is of
essentiality to achieve the quality learning experience alongside with their
teachers.

 We are meant to be heard.

o Again, emphasizing the incorporation of the word “we”, this particular rule
signifies that the students with their teachers should always strive to practice a
democratic type of discourse for greater acquisition and better appreciation of
facts. This particular rule motivates learners that they should not be afraid to
share what their incites or the ideas that they have in mind, especially if they
believe that it can truly contribute to the formation of a well-established
knowledge that everybody can benefit from.

This particular rule strongly implies the value of responsibility. This rule is established for the sole
purpose of disciplining the students and help them to be always reminded that time management is
really essential for them to get through all of the academic demands that they will encounter
throughout the day or week.
