OBJECTIVES
This course introduces and highlights to the Master of Laws students various
methods of research as important tools in this academic pursuit. Particularly, the course
aims for the following:
1. To gain insights into how legal or scientific social research is conducted;
2. To be acquainted with the different methodologies of research;
3. To familiarize with the process of Research/Thesis Writing;
4. To help in the critical review of literature and assessing research trends, and
encourage students to undertake research;
5. To identify influencing factors or determinants of research parameters;
6. To help in the documentation and analysis of the results;
7. To develop skills on technicalities in research/thesis writing;
8. To prepare students as they proceed to writing their thesis or dissertations.
9. To develop research oriented legal work to contribute to the practice of law in
the country.
EXPECTED OUTCOME
METHODOLOGY
This class will be characterized by lectures, student presentations, actual writing,
critique of work. Consultation schedules in Cebu will be announced. Online submissions
however are encouraged.
GRADING SYSTEM
Class Participation 20 %
(This includes participation in lectures and class presentation.
Attendance is also considered)
Research Proposal 80%
(Submission of a complete Research Proposal)
