INTRODUCTION OF COMPANY

Established in 1981 in Odhav, Ahmedabad by


Jitendra Mamtora, an Electrical Engineer who then had about 12
years experience in the Transformer industry.The Corporate Office is
located at Changodar, 20 kms from Ahmedabad and 450kms from
Mumbai, India.

MANUFACTURING FACILITY

LOCATION:MORAIYA
T&R’s ultramodern manufacturing
facility in Moraiya, an industrial area near Ahmedabad, is built up on
an area of 14,000 sq. mt. and has the capacity to produce 16,000
MVA per annum. T&R has now leapfrogged to an elite league
capable of manufacturing and testing 765 KV Transformers.

(4.3)VICE  PRESIDENT   |   HUMAN RESOURCE


Should be a Post graduate with
specialization in HR, preferably from a premier institute. An under-
graduate degree in Engineering would be an advantage.

Should have around 17 years experience of which at least five years


should be as Head of function or Plant-HR. Should have worked in
an manufacturing industry, preferably engineering industry,
especially in a company with excellent  HR practices.
Should have the desired competence in understanding business
strategy of a mid-sized engineering company, sound knowledge of
HR processes, excellent people skills with an ability to play a subtle

role as a motivating facilitator. Should also be thorough in all


statutory and legal processes governing his domain.

(4.4)MANAGER   |   HUMAN RESOURCE


Should be a Post graduate with specialization
in HR, preferably from a premier institute. An under-graduate degree
in Engineering would be an advantage.

Should have 5-7 years experience in a manufacturing company with


excellent HR practices. Should have been responsible for rolling out
of HR processes in a plant or company. The position also calls for a
proven ability and keenness to learn and customize processes
aligned with organisational goals. Knowledge of statutory and legal
processes and a proven ability to manage people is also a
prerequisite.

(4.5)GENERAL MANAGER   |   DESIGN


Should be a B.E. (Elect) with 15-20 years
design experience in a Power Transmission & Distribution company
with a proven capability to handle the design and technical aspects
of Power Transformers upto 400kV Class. Will be heading the
Design related functions of the organization which entails a key role
in specification study, client requirements, verification of documents,
drawings, standards, inspection and testing.

Will also have to ensure design competence development of the


electrical design team to capture benchmark design practices to 
enhance quality of design.

(4.6)MANAGER  |  PRODUCTION

B.E. (Elect) with 7-8 years from a premier


institute. Should have sound production experience in a power
transformer company. Will have to ensure the progress of all
production processes  in a relevant production line in accordance
with the company's established manufacturing procedures & quality
standards. Will have to plan & coordinate the activities of individual
sections to manufacture as per monthly schedules, give feedback to
Production Manager about the precision of planning data for his
manpower hours. Will have to arrange necessary training for
production section supervisors and workers. Will also have to
resolve all difficulties during the working day for smooth operation,
facilitated by enterprise resource tools. Will be expected to adhere to
all safety norms to ensure operational and personnel safety.

All the positions call for good communication and

Suppose your transformer is of Rs. 100. Then the cost of raw


material is about 70%. Copper & core – 60 % to 70 %. All other items
are stock based.

Stock based items are: MOG, GOR, VALVES etc. These are
inventory based items.

8.INVENTORY
Inventory is a dynamic situation. It has to be
flexible. By inventory you can based upon the data.

Suppose management says that we manufactured 15 transformers.


We required 30 MOG. So by Lead Time we will decide how to buy.

Importance of Lead Time: Lead time for buying PICC is say 15 days.

PICC is making by Copper rod. There are three companies who


make the PICC:

Transformer is a customized product. When we are
going to purchase any material or accessories we have to
consider all things. Suppose we want to buy OLTC, so there are
two vendors available. Then first we compare those two vendors
offer, as below:

and winding in parallel but after that all department works after
completing of one by one department.

If we think that purchase is easy but it is not easy as we think. It


is critical process and we can say that all departments are depending
on purchase, because without material we can’t do anything.

11.INFRASTRUCTURE
(11.1)Windingshop
 Study the design of winding given by design department.
 Former is made and fitted on the winding machine.
 Cylinder having lesser dia.than inner dia of coil is mounted on
former and both ends of this cylinder is fixed by glue.
 Two types of wedges are mounted on it as per assembly
drawing. These wedges are stick tightly with glue and kept time
for drying.
 (a) T-wedges
(b) Dummy wedges
 After drying (natural drying) process of cylinder, powder of
candle brazed is applied on cylinder. By this coating, coil disc
can be easily mounted on it and easily pressed.
 Now as per the conductor size and number of conductor given

in drawing, reels of conductor are arrenged and winding is


started on cylinder.
 Here other side conductor keeps tight with tension. For this
following equipments required:
1. Hammer
2. Clamp
3. Paper roll
4. Pneumatic bender
5. Cutter
6. Lighter
7. Rider

 For very first coil, wind as per design i.e. no. of turns are
wound in one ring of coil and arrangement of turns and block
drops are made and one disc is completed.
 Now with the of bender, transposition is done in conductor.
After transposition, one disc rolled here. Bending is done in
such a way that transposition bending should not come
under spacers or wedges. It should come between two
blocks. So, at the time of pressing, at the place of bending,
insulation will be safe. Under high voltage winding, guard
washers are placed to avoid terminal damage.
 As per drawing, spacers are provided and by similar
procedure, one by one all discs are completed.
 Between some discs, oil guard washer provided for easy
circulation of oil.

Oil washer are of two types;


(a) Inner O.G.W.
(b) Outer O.G.W.

 In the Auto transformer,
we are use four type winding.

We are use tertiary winding for reduce the 3 rd harmonic, to
compensate the circulating current.

(11.3)Testing
Transformer being an inherent part of any kind
of electrical industry, forms one of the most important equipment.
Before a transformer can be connected to the external circuits, the
internal connections within the transformer must be known so that
the compatibility of the transformer with respect to the external circuit
is checked and ensured. From a series of tests at factory site, which
might at most be spread over a few days, it is necessary to ascertain
that the transformer will be suitable for 30 years or more in service
All Transformers are to be tested in accor-dance with IS 2026 (Part I
to Part V).
The final testing of completely assembled trans-formers is classified
into three categories as below:-

ROUTINE TESTS
The routine tests are conducted to ensure the particular transformer
is free from manufacturing defects.
 Measurement of insulation resistance
 Measurement of winding resistance
 Measurement of voltage ratio
 Verification of polarity and vector group
 No-load loss and excitation current measurement
 Load loss and impedance voltage measurement
 Separate source voltage withstand test
 Induced over voltage tests
 Testing of transformer oil BDV
 Magnetic balance & measurement of magnetizing I.

SPECIAL TESTS:
The special tests are conducted depending upon the need for
particular test-as per site conditions. The transformer shall pass the
appropriate di-electric tests specified in IS 2026 Part III of 1977. The
dielectric test may be type test, routine test or special tests.
NOTE: -The special tests have to be agreed between the purchaser
and supplier. Hence purchaser should clearly specify conducting
special tests in the P.O.:
 Measurement of noise level
 Measurement of Zero sequence impedance

Managing Director – Mr. J.U. Mamtora : is an Electrical Engineer,
having overall experience of 28 years. He has been heading the
transformer engineering division since the beginning of operations.
Mr. S. Sen (MIEE): Who has extensive experience in power
transformer design and manufacturing. He has an overall experience

of 47 years, out of which he spent 6 years in Hackbridge U.K., 30


years in Heckbridge, India and 10 years as technical consultant and
advisor to Heckbridge, India. He is associated with our company for
over two years. His experience in design & manufacture of Power
Transformer is up to 220 KV class Transformer.

Sr. Manager Design – Mr. Yogesh Sharma (B.Tech) : He has an


over all experience of 16 years in transformer designing and has
designed transformers upto 150 MVA, 220 KV Class in the
companies, where he has working earlier

Mr. T.Vijayan : is looking after the technical aspects of


manufacturing of transformers and other electrical heavy
equipments. He is heading our entire technical team as General
Manager (Works).Mr. Vijayan is also a qualified engineer having 36
years of hands on valuable experience in manufacturing of 400KV,
315MVA transformers.

14.SAFTY & STANDARD


 In the late 1800s, when electrical energy became available,
there was a controversy between Edison, the champion of
direct current (dc), and Tesla, who pioneered the use of
alternating current (ac) because it could be transmitted
efficiently over long distances. Edison argued that ac was
unsafe because it was used in the electric chair.

 Far removed from this controversy was Arsenne D’Arsonval,


physicist and physician in France, who was investigating the
effect of sinusoidal ac on the body, well before the era of
electronics which was two decades in the future, being
introduced by De Forest.

 D’Arsonval’s first experiments were on the effect of ac on


muscle contraction using frog muscle.

 To perform these studies, he needed a constant voltage,


variable frequency sine-wave generator. At that time, there
were 20, 40, and 60 cycle generators, a few of which could
be speeded up to produce higher frequencies; but they did
not have a constant output voltage.

 By using this instrument, along with various alternators such


as the Gramme machine, d’Arsonval was able to show that
the muscular contraction force decreased with increasing
frequency of the electric current. d’Arsonval then turned his
attention to the effect of high-frequency ac on the human
body.

D’Arsonval demonstrated two important facts:

 Muscle contraction force decreased with increasing frequency


of the current and

 Substantial current could be passed through the body and it

produced a sensation of warmth.

(14.3)Importance of Electrical Safety


 Electrical safety awareness presents unique challenges. First,
as a hazard, electricity is silent, odorless, and invisible, even
though the equipment that conducts it may be huge and
located in difficult environments (which by themselves may be

potentially hazardous, as with explosive chemicals, moving


machines, or construction activities).

 Second, electricity use is routinely viewed as a safe


experience: every time a light is turned on or a computer
mouse points a cursor on a video display, electrons flow and
injury or damage rarely if ever occurs. In other words, there
are numerous common experiences in each person’s daily
life where electricity is essential but not noticeable in the
completion of work.

 For electrical safety instructor, the obligation is to raise


awareness of electrical risk even though truly no risk may be
perceived. After raising risk awareness, the challenge is to
modify risk acceptability.

 This is more difficult when at the same time an employee


personally, or an organization generally, may be friendly to
the mentality or spirit that is captured by the notion of having
the right stuff, a reference to an indomitable risk-taking
attitude.

 There is no question that electrical safety is a key concern for


electricians and engineers, their employers, unions and the
government.

 Every day, an average of 9,000 workers in the U.S. suffer


disabling injuries on the job.

CONCLUSION

The SWOT Analysis of the group for three years from the financial
point of view are :-

PBDIT, PBDT, PAT , Dividend Pay Out, Dividend Per Share,


Profit per share, Book Value Per Share, Net worth and Total Assets
are increasing from the year 2002 to 2004. But as we see the return
that company gave is very low.Net Profit Ratio is constantly
increasing, so the other returns are also increasing although in the
year 2004 expenses, interest increased and gross profit decreased.

But the profits and returns are very low and the turnover ratios are
also not very good. So, the company may find the problems in the
future.
