After understanding the above anchor chart the teacher will share the white board to make
examples on same numerator, same denominator, different numerators and denominators
After making the examples the teacher will share a few questions to answer on compare and
order fractions.
1. Example 1: Nathan is confused and asks why is 5/11 > 4/11? Can you explain it to
him?
Solution:
5/11 and 4/11 have the same denominators; hence, we can simply compare the
fractions by observing the numerators. The fraction with a greater numerator will
be a greater fraction. 5 > 4. Therefore, 5/11 > 4/11.
2. Emma is stuck and finding it hard to arrange the below-given fractions in ascending
order? Can you help her? 4/8,⅕,¾.
3. Ryan had 2/7th of a pizza while Sam had 3/8th of a pizza?Who had the larger share
Ryan or Sam?
WE DO:
The teacher will share her screen and display the following worksheet. The teacher will explain
the instructions and solve the first 2 questions for the students. Next, the teacher will solve the
rest of the questions with the students giving the answers and solutions.

lines:
3. 22 Sep ■ Simplifying fractions Simplifying a fraction means to reduce a fraction to its simplest form.
2021 ■ Reducing a fraction to its
lowest term. I DO: How to Simplify Fractions?
Simplifying a fraction implies reducing a fraction to its lowest form. A fraction is in its simplest
form if its numerator and denominator have no common factors except 1. The simplest form of
a fraction is equivalent to the given fraction. For example, the fraction 3/4 is in the simplest
form because 3 and 4 have no common factor except 1.
We Do:Let's try simplifying the fraction 8/24 step by step.
Step 1: Write the factors of numerator and denominator.
