1. A company intends to employ 3 part-time employees and 5 full-time employees.

The normal workload is 40 hours per week for full-time and 20 hours per week for
part-time employees. Each full-time employee is paid RM6 per hour for work up to
40 hours per week and can sell 5 items per hour. A full-time employee who works
overtime is paid RM10 per hour. Each part-time employee is paid RM3 per hour
and can sell 3 items per hour. The cost price for the item is RM6, and each item is
being sold for RM9. This company has a weekly operating expense of RM500. The
company has established its goals in the following priority:

Goal 1 Sell at least 1,600 items per week

Goal 2 Earn a profit of at least RM2,200 per week
Goal 3 Full-time employees should work at most 100 hours of overtime
Goal 4 To increase their sense of job security, the number of hours by which each
full-time employee fails to work 40 hours per week should be minimized.

Formulate a preemptive goal programming model that could be used to determine

how many hours per week each employee should work.
[25 marks]

2. Use the Dantzig-Wolfe decomposition algorithm to solve the following problem:

Max z=14x1 +10x2 6 x3

Subject to: 2x1 4 x2 2 x3 20

2 x2 2 x3 10
2x1 6
4 x2 2 x3 16
x1 , x2 , x3 0

[25 marks]

3. Carry out the first two iterations of Karmarkar’s algorithm for the following
problem.
Min z=2x2 x3

Subject to: x1 2 x2 x3 0
x1 x2 x3 1
x1 , x2 0

mempunyai beberapa matlamat (gol) mengikut keutamaan berikut:

Gol 1 Jual sekurang-kurangnya 1,600 unit sesuatu produk setiap minggu

Gol 2 Mengaut keuntungan sekurang-kurangnya RM2,200 setiap minggu

menentukan berapa jam setiap pekerja perlu bekerja setiap minggu.

[25 markah]

2. Gunakan algoritma penguraian Dantzig-Wolfe untuk menyelesaikan masalah

berikut:

Maksimumkan z=14x1 +10x2 6 x3

terhadap: 2x1 4 x2 2 x3 20
2 x2 2 x3 10
2x1 6
4 x2 2 x3 16
x1 , x2 , x3 0
[25 markah]

3. Jalankan dua lelaran pertama algoritma Karmarkar untuk masalah berikut:

Minimumkan z=2x2 x3

terhadap: x1 2 x2 x3 0
x1 x2 x3 1
x1 , x2 0
[25 markah]

4. Convert the following problem into Karmarkar’s special form:

Min z=3x1 4 x2

Subject to: x1 2 x2 8
2x1 - 3x2 6
x1 x2 5
x1, x2 0

[25 marks]

5. On the given set S, determine whether the following function is convex, concave, or
neither.

f ( x1, x2 , x3 ) x12 x22 2x32 0.5x1x2 ; S R3

[25 marks]

6. A company manufactures two products. If it charges a price pi for product i , it can

sell q i units of product i , where, q1 60 3 p1 p2 and q2 80 2 p2 p1 .It costs
RM25 to produce a unit of product 1 and RM72 to produce a unit of product 2.
How many units of each product should be produced to maximize profits? Hint:
NLP problem and Hessian matrix.
[25 marks]

7. A company has two factories, each manufacturing the same product. Factory A
produces x units of the product at a cost of 2 x 2 50, 000 ringgit, and factory B can
produce y units at a cost of y 2 40, 000 ringgit. If an order for 1200 units is to be
filled, how should the production be distributed among the two factories in order to
minimize the total production cost? Also, what is the minimum cost? Hint: Use the
Lagrange method for optimization.
[25 marks]

8. Use the Kuhn-Tucker conditions to find the optimal solution to the following NLP:

2 2
Min z= x1 3 x2 5

Subject to: x1 x2 7
x1, x2 0

x1 2 x2 8
2x1 - 3x2 6
x1 x2 5
x1 , x2 0

permintaan sebanyak 1200 unit perlu dipenuhi , bagaimanakah sepatutnya
pengeluaran diagihkan antara dua kilang tersebut supaya jumlah kos pengeluaran
dapat diminimumkan? Tambahan pula, apakah kos minimum? Petunjuk: Gunakan
kaedah Lagrange untuk pengoptimuman.
