2. Component Details
A. satLINK Transceiver
(1) The satLINK transceiver is located left side overhead cabin at approximately, fuselage station
490. The transceiver unit weight is approximately 5 pounds.
(2) The satLINK Unit contains the necessary controlling circuitry to interface all system
components. It is ARINC 741 compliant. The unit also provides Worldwide Voice and Data
Communications. A system architecture diagram is shown in figure 1, below.
(3) The satLINK provides wired network clients with narrow band satellite data communications,
satellite voice communications, aircraft data, and GPS data in flight (not to be used for
navigation). Satellite voice and data communication is provided via two Iridium satellite modems
with their serial ports virtualized via TCP ports.
(4) The satLINK transceiver is equipped with three 10/100 Mbit switched Ethernet ports, 6 ARINC
429 Receivers and 4 ARINC 429 transmitters, and 10 inputs and 10 outputs ARINC discretes.
Not all ports and discretes are used in this installation. The system’s software configuration is
provided preloaded, however is configurable using the satLINK Configurator software utility
P/N 700-0311.
(5) The satLINK Unit is also equipped with Wi-Fi Wireless Network Card that provides IEEE 802.11
communications between a Wi-Fi Wireless Handset and the satLINK Unit.

3. OPERATION
A. FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
(1) The satLINK communication service allows aviation users to send and receive voice, messaging
and data regardless of their positions on or above the earth: air-to-land,
land-to-air and air-to-air.
(2) The satLINK is also provisioned for interfacing with the following:
(a) ACARS Management Unit – The ACARS management unit is the Aeronautical
Telecommunications Network router and provides the interface between the aircraft and
network ground stations. The satLINK Unit, interfaced with the ACARS system, provides
an uplink and downlink path to communicate with the network ground stations.
(b) MCDU Units – The Multi Control Display Units (MCDUs) provide the visual interface to the
typical SATCOM dialing functions as well as enable ACARS data-2 messaging to and
from the Iridium satellite network and the aircraft CMU.

NOTE: Av-DEC P/N AG477000-16 Hi-TAK Polyurethane Gaskets™ are supplied with
protective release film on both sides of the gasket. Leave release film in place until
ready to install gasket.
(3) Remove gasket from the protective packaging, taking care not to fold or bend it. Ensure that
fastener holes and connector cutout in the gasket will align with the antenna when positioned for
installation. Trim the perimeter of the gasket flush with the antenna if needed. Remove release
film from the side of the gasket marked “antenna side” and position gasket over the antenna.
NOTE: Do not remove the release film from the "aircraft side" of the gasket at this time.
(4) Beginning at one side or corner of the antenna, place gasket into position, carefully aligning
gasket fastener holes with antenna fastener holes. Release film should remain on exposed
“aircraft side” of gasket until Immediately prior to antenna installation.
(5) Apply a layer of Av-DEC HT3326-5 Self-Leveling Green sealant to the antenna-mounting
surface of the antenna connector. Allow the sealant to cure for thirty minutes before mounting
the antenna on the aircraft.
NOTE: Do not open HT3326-5 package until ready for use. Follow instructions for priming
and mixing on the HT3326-5 cartridge. Dispose of cartridge if it has been removed
from package for more than 24 hours.
Sealing O-Ring is supplied with Antenna. Special precaution must be taken to assure
the O-Ring is installed properly.
(6) Connect the coaxial cable connectors to the antenna and remove release film from the “aircraft
side” of the gasket.
(7) Apply Stretch Seal tape (EN110589 or AD89513). Remove the tape from the package and
unroll a small length of tape. Wrap the Stretch Seal Tape around the mated connector with a
50% overlap while stretching the tape 25% to 50% to ensure a tight wrap. A tight wrap is
necessary to ensure a proper seal. Coverage shall be from the base of the antenna to at least
½” beyond the connector and onto the insulation jacket of the coaxial cable.
NOTE: Aircraft cutout hole must be at least ¼” greater in diameter than the connector outer
diameter when using Stretch Seal tape.
(8) Holding the internal nutplate assembly in place, pre-position at least two of four bolts through
the antenna and gasket. Align bolts at correct locations on the aircraft surface. Tighten each
bolt one to two turns to hold the antenna in place on the aircraft. Install a third additional bolt
through the antenna and gasket. Tighten bolts in accordance with B737 Structural Repair
Manual
51-40-04 (25 – 35 in-lbs). Wait at least 15 minutes and retighten the bolts.
NOTE: Use the empty bolt hole to get access to the antenna base.

C. Equipment Required
(1) The major objective in the design of suitable eddy current testing equipment is to achieve good
sensitivity and flexibility at a reasonable cost. The equipment should be suitable for a variety of
applications, and should be able to accommodate different types of coils. In general, versatility
of equipment and ability to analyze signal data are proportional to complexity and cost.
(2) An eddy current test system is actually a collection of subsystems working in conjunction with
each other to extract specific data from a test. The components that make up the system are:
(a) Test coil (normally contained in a probe or fixture). There is no universal test coil. Test
coils are made up to fit the needs of the particular job being performed. Coils of
different designs, and in different combinations can be made to perform highly
specialized tests. Specific probe types are discussed in B737 NDT manual
(b) Oscillator. The system should be capable of generating eddy currents over a wide,
easily varied frequency range. The frequencies most commonly used for inspection of
aluminum range from 100 Hz to 1 MHz.
(c) Balance and Processing System. This equipment should be as flexible as possible,
within cost limitations of the individual operator, and be capable of obtaining all
pertinent information from the test coil. This system detects changes in the flow of eddy
currents. These changes are processed and amplified and presented for operator
readout.
(d) Signal Readout System, or Display. The readout can be a cathode-ray tube, a meter,
defect lights, or a recorder. The system also can include a means of automatic sorting
and marking, and audible alarm auxiliaries. A meter readout normally is used in
maintenance inspection equipment.
(e) Reference Standards. Reference standards are fabricated from material and to
dimensions specified in individual test procedures. Electric discharge machining (EDM)
may be substituted for jeweler's sawcuts in notch fabrication.
D. Inspection Procedure
Note: Inspection of the fasteners installed in the fuselage skin may be accomplished from both
the inside and the outside of the aircraft using non-destructive inspection techniques. Access
for these inspections will be interior and external.
(1) Gain access by removing the Iridium Antenna P/N S67-1575-165 at the top of the fuselage
approximately installed between STA 480 to 500 and between STG 1 and 2L. In accordance
with AMM 23-26-02 page 401.
Note: Inspecting the critical fastener location from the outside of the aircraft allows detection
of the flaw once it has extended beyond the head of the fastener with visual, dye penetrant,
and high frequency eddy current probes (HFEC). The diameter of the fastener head is
assumed twice the fastener shank diameter. The length of the crack as it becomes detectable
is shown below in figure 601.

(2) Gain access to the lower section of the Iridium antenna doubler in the same location as
previously accessed in step C1.
(3) Accomplish an eddy current inspection on the fasteners in the first row around the periphery of
the doubler that are common to the antenna doubler and the fuselage skin from the aircraft

detection of a flaw that has extended to a tip to tip distance of 1.00 inches.
(5) Ensure that no signs of distress (cracks and/or working rivets) common to the Iridium antenna
doubler is present.
(6) After successful inspections procedures have been completed Install the Iridium Sensor
