FS001 - Module 1

The document summarizes a learning episode about virtual school environments. It discusses that with eLearning, virtual learning environments (VLEs) can be configured creatively. An effective VLE should keep learners and teachers safe, orderly, accessible and flexible. It should address their needs and engage learners imaginatively. The home environment should also support learning by being comfortable and distraction-free. Digital tools used in the VLE should be creative, motivational, informational and instructional to support learning. The activity involves observing an online class, interviewing a teacher and student, analyzing the VLE characteristics, and reflecting on an effective virtual learning environment.

FS 1 Learning Episode 1: The School Environment

Name: Vitasa, Devine Erika S.

Year and Course: BTLED – HE IV

Intended Learning Outcomes

At the end of this Learning Episode, I must be able to determine the characteristics of our virtual school/learning
environment that is safe, secure and supportive of learning.

Learning Essentials
As we head into our pandemic situation today and into the 21st century, our physical school
environment moves to our digital world. With eLearning, there is no limit to the creative ways virtual
learning environments can be configured.
(VLEs)
1. Virtual School/Learning Environment and its Learning Management system (LMS) must be
conducive for learning. Must have consistent practices and features that:
a. Keep the learners and the teachers safe, orderly, accessible, and flexible for learning.
b. Address the needs of the learners and teachers.
c. Engage the learners imaginatively, intellectually, and interactively to their learning
activities.
2. Home environment should create a positive learning experience by:
a. Having a clean, comfortable, suitable lighting and distraction free environment.
b. Giving needs and support to both students and teacher.
3. Since we are conducting classes virtually, digital tools and technology are also part of our
school environment. And they should have good purposes and features that we need to
consider in creating and choosing. They should be:
a. Creative – offers visual stimulation and appeal to aesthetics. Sets psychological
atmosphere of the visual classroom.
b. Motivational – encourages students to engage and to perform better and have greater
confidence. Digital tools should have features like games, can present videos, and other
motivational activities that help the students to see their growth and progress.
c. Informational – can be used as a tool for strategy in disseminating information easily
and can build 21st century skills to the students.
d. Instructional – can move the students to respond and participate in the discussion.
Students and teachers can manipulate, explore, and access it easily.

ACTIVITY - OBSERVE, ANALYZE, REFLECT

To realize the Intended Learning Outcome, work my way through these steps:
1. Joining an online class session. Observe the physical characteristics of their platform and the
environment of the teacher and learners.
2. Interview a teacher and a student about their virtual learning environment. Use the checklist
below as your guide in your interview.
3. Analyze your gathered data about their virtual school/learning environment.
4. Reflect on the characteristics of a virtual learning environment.
5. Present your idea of a good virtual learning environment through any of these:
a. Descriptive paragraph
b. Photo essay
c. Sketch or Drawing
OBSERVE
As you join the virtual class, it is advised to read the entire worksheet before proceeding to
your observations. A good understanding of the activities and tasks to be accomplished in the activity
will yield better learning results.
OBSERVATION CHECKLIST
Familiarize yourself with the different areas of a Virtual School Environment. Check the column to
indicate their availability. Give a brief description of those that are available and say how much each
area will contribute to students’ learning and development.
Area / Description Will it be contributed to the
students’ learning and
development, Why?
